23 arrested after Kitale DCI officer killed during night raid
A police constable attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was stabbed to death on Friday night, 5 December 2025, at Matisi township.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital on Sunday, December 7, 2025, the deceased, who was in the company of five other DCI officers, was pursuing a murder person of interest when armed youths cornered him, and one stabbed him on the neck using a sharp dagger.

The report further indicates that the deceased succumbed to injuries upon arrival at the Cherang’any Nursing Home.
“Upon reaching the Malewa area, they encountered a group of armed youths, during which one suspect, identified as Moses Odhiambo Okuwa, stabbed PC/Drv Patrick Ouma on the neck, inflicting critical injuries. Officers on patrol from Matisi Police Station, led by the Station Commander, responded to reinforce the team. The injured officer was rushed to Cherangani Nursing Home, where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” read part of the report.

The officers were pursuing persons of interest linked to the murder of a 54-year-old public service vehicle (PSV) driver, Evans Ng’ang’a, on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
The officer’s body is kept at the hospital’s mortuary pending autopsy and further investigations.
During the security operation, 23 persons were arrested by the detectives.

Mistaken identity?
Meanwhile, Esther Munapu, the mother of one of the persons of interest, said the police shot dead his innocent son and took away his body.
The distressed mother said he has been looking for the body of his child in all the public and private hospitals, but she has not managed to retrieve it.
“My son, Thomas Ouma, is a carpenter and was shot by a female police officer. Why did they kill my child? We have been looking for his body.”

“We went to Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kitale District Hospital, and Cherang’any Nursing Home, but the body is not there. Why don’t they give me his remains so that I can bury them?” ‘Esther?’ she asked while crying.
Bernard Wamang’oli, a businessman in Matisi, condemned the police for using excessive force in the deadly operation.
“Next time they come here, they should be lethal. Some bullets are lodged in my shop,” Wamang’oli said.
