2 persons of interest busted in major cigarette and drug haul in Bungoma

Two people have been arrested in Bungoma after police carried out a targeted operation aimed at disrupting illegal drug activities in the area.
According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on X, the operation followed information shared by members of the public, prompting officers from Bungoma Police Station to move in swiftly.

Police said the team, led by the Sub-County Police Commander, conducted a coordinated raid on a property believed to be linked to drug trafficking and distribution.
During the raid, officers recovered about 30 rolls of cannabis (bhang), an unrolled bundle of cannabis sativa weighing roughly 12 kilograms, and 39,000 sticks of uncustomized cigarettes.
The two individuals found at the scene were taken into custody and are currently being processed as the recovered items are prepared for court presentation. They are expected to be charged once the investigation is finalised.
According to the National Police Service, efforts are ongoing to trace the source of the illegal goods and dismantle the wider supply chain connected to the pair.

Police said the operation is part of continuous efforts to safeguard public safety and curb substance abuse in the region.
“Police in Bungoma have intensified efforts to disrupt the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs within the region, as part of ongoing operations to safeguard public safety and curb substance abuse. Following actionable intelligence from members of the public, officers from Bungoma Police Station, under the supervision of the Sub-County Police Commander, conducted a swift and coordinated raid on a property within the area,” the statement read in part.
Adding;
“During the operation, police arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered approximately 30 rolls of cannabis (bhang), an unrolled bundle of cannabis sativa weighing about 12 kilograms, and 39,000 sticks of uncustomed cigarettes. The seized items are being processed for court presentation, while the suspects remain in custody and are scheduled to be charged. Investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the contraband and dismantle the broader supply network linked to the duo.”
