Muhoho Kenyatta shares key advice on succeeding in business

Business mogul Muhoho Kenyatta has shared key advice on succeeding in business, urging aspiring entrepreneurs to remain focused, embrace hard work and understand that success takes time.

Speaking in an interview posted on Sunday, September 6, 2026, Kenyatta said having a clear idea and maintaining focus are among the key ingredients needed to build a successful venture.

He cautioned against expecting quick results, noting that success comes through consistent effort over a long period.

“One thing that I think everybody needs to remember is that we just have to have an idea, focus, and just keep your head down and know that nothing comes overnight,” Kenyatta said.

“It comes out of hard work, and it comes out of doing things over a long period,” he added.

Kenyatta also highlighted the importance of mentorship and building the right relationships, particularly for young people seeking to advance their careers and businesses.

He said young people need the right mentorship but often fail to put themselves in spaces where they can build valuable connections because they fear they do not belong.

“Most of the time they don’t get themselves to the right rooms because they’re too scared that I don’t belong here,” he said.

Kenyatta urged young people to surround themselves with positive influences and avoid people who could distract them from their goals.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and being intentional about the people they choose to network with.

“We have to be able to focus, keep your focus and don’t look at people who are going to bring you down,” he said.

He further advised young people to network within the right circles and build relationships that can help them grow.

Not everyone should become an entrepreneur

The business mogul also challenged the idea that every young person should become an entrepreneur.

He said business is only one aspect of life and encouraged people to identify their strengths and pursue careers that align with their abilities.

“Not everybody should, I don’t think everybody should be an entrepreneur,” he said.

Kenyatta pointed out that some people may be better suited to careers such as engineering and social sciences.

“Look for your true north. Look for what it is that is really inside you, that drives you. And that should be where you want to go,” he said.

He warned that some people who have the potential to become leading engineers or develop major ideas could miss valuable opportunities by abandoning their strengths simply to start a small business.

“There are a lot of different careers that people can look at. Not just starting a business. That is not the beginning and the end of life,” he said.

Muhoho Kenyatta on scaling a business

Kenyatta also offered advice on how entrepreneurs can grow their businesses, stressing the importance of reinvesting profits.

He said business owners should avoid treating their ventures as immediate sources of personal income and instead put money back into the business to support growth.

“If you want to scale up in business, I mean, it’s a matter of reinvesting,” he said.

Kenyatta cautioned entrepreneurs against viewing their businesses as a “cash cow” from the beginning and spending their first profits on celebrations.

Instead, he encouraged business owners to remain patient, reinvest in their ventures and focus on building sustainable businesses over time.
