Geoffrey Mosiria has urged the government to consider setting aside funds to help young people establish families and get married.

The Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Customer Engagement and Citizen Service, in a statement shared on Tuesday, August 18,2026, said marriage plays an important role in bringing families together and strengthening communities, urging greater support for young people who want to settle down.

“Marriage is a beautiful thing. The government needs to set aside a fund as a “Life Starter Pack” to help young people establish their families and get married,” Mosiria said.

He argued that marriage between two committed partners can bring benefits that extend beyond the couple to their families and the wider community.

“We should also remember that a marriage between two serious and committed couples comes with blessings, not only for the couple but also for their families and the wider community,” he said.

Mosiria on marriage and responsibilities

Mosiria further called for young people to be supported and encouraged to get married, arguing that marriage can help instil a greater sense of responsibility.

According to him, starting a family can motivate young people to work harder, become innovative and focus on building stable lives.

“Many young people should be supported and encouraged to get married. Marriage can instill a sense of responsibility in young people, giving them greater motivation to be innovative, work hard, build their lives, and contribute positively to society,” Mosiria said.

He said supporting young people to establish families should go hand in hand with creating opportunities that enable them to become economically independent.

Mosiria maintained that young people need both encouragement and practical support as they navigate the challenges of building their lives and starting families.

“Let us support our young people to build families, create opportunities, and have a reason to work hard for a better future,” he added.

His proposal for a “Life Starter Pack” comes as young people continue to face financial challenges that can make establishing independent households difficult.

Mosiria’s remarks place marriage within a broader conversation about youth empowerment, responsibility and economic opportunities, suggesting that support for young families could also contribute to stronger communities.
