How Nairobi residents can apply for water connection online

Getting a new water or sewer connection in Nairobi does not necessarily require walking to physical offices or filling paper forms. The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has shared a guide to help city residents complete their applications entirely online.
In an update shared on X on August 24, 2026, the utility firm encouraged Nairobians to use its digital service portal.
“Your new water connection is just a few clicks away. Apply conveniently through the Nairobi Water Online Application Portal ; portal.nairobiwater.co.ke,” the company posted.
Account setup and choosing connection details
To get started, applicants go to portal.nairobiwater.co.ke and open an account by filling in their first name, last name, email address, phone number, and a secure password.
Once registered, users sign in to their new account and select the option for water or sewer applications on the main menu.
For a smooth experience on the platform, recommended web browsers include Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.
Applicants then choose what kind of supply they need, such as water only, along with the specific activity type. For example, selecting two to three dwelling units under domestic use brings up a standard connection fee of Sh5000.
Next, users locate their property on an interactive map by clicking directly on the exact spot, which automatically fills in the geographic coordinates and administrative zone.
Completing details and uploading documents
The application form asks for essential personal and property information across five quick steps. Applicants enter their full names, National ID number, KRA PIN, mobile line, email address, postal code, and contact details for an alternate person.
For property records, users supply the estate name, street name, house number, and plot or LR number. The system prompts applicants to carefully review all entered information before hitting the final submit button.
After submitting the main form, users go back to the home page and click the upload application tab to attach supporting documents. The portal requires all files to be in PDF format, saved with plain alphanumeric names, and kept under 2MB each.
Mandatory attachments include copies of the applicant ID card, KRA PIN certificate, and plot or lease documents.
Nairobi Water reminded customers that the digital platform stays open continuously, stating, “Visit portal.nairobiwater.co.ke to access all water services anytime, anywhere.”
