Toothpaste is mainly known for keeping teeth clean and protecting oral health.

It contains active ingredients that help fight bacteria, remove plaque, and reduce acids that can damage teeth. Regular brushing twice a day helps prevent common dental problems such as cavities, gum disease, bad breath, and tooth loss. Most people grow up knowing toothpaste is important for dental care, but very few realise it can also be useful outside the bathroom.

Beyond oral hygiene, toothpaste has strong cleaning abilities because of its mild abrasive texture. This means it can scrub away stains, dirt, and odours without causing damage to many surfaces. It is cheap, easy to find, and can be used in different situations around the home.

Shoe cleaner

Toothpaste can be used to clean dirty shoes and restore their fresh look. For leather shoes, apply a small amount of toothpaste on stained areas and gently rub using a soft cloth. It helps lift dirt and marks without harming the material.

For white sneakers, use an old toothbrush to scrub the surface carefully. Focus on tough stains and gradually add more toothpaste if needed. Once done, wipe with a damp cloth to remove residue. The shoes often look noticeably cleaner and brighter after this simple method.

Remove crayon from walls

Children often use walls as drawing surfaces, leaving crayon marks that can be difficult to remove. Instead of repainting immediately, toothpaste can be used as a cleaning solution.

Apply a small amount directly on the crayon marks and gently scrub using a sponge or soft brush. The mild abrasive quality of toothpaste helps loosen the waxy crayon without damaging the paint underneath. After scrubbing, wipe the wall with a damp cloth to clean off any leftover paste.

De-rust an iron box

A dirty or rusted iron box can affect how clothes are pressed and may even stain fabric. Toothpaste can help clean the bottom plate of the iron. Apply a thin layer of toothpaste to the affected area and gently rub using a cloth.

Focus on rust spots and buildup, allowing the paste to loosen the dirt. Once cleaned, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth until all residue is removed.

Restore the bling

Toothpaste can also be used to clean jewellery such as rings, bracelets, and other small accessories. Over time, jewellery can lose its shine due to dirt and oil buildup. To restore brightness, apply a small amount of toothpaste and gently scrub using a soft toothbrush.

Be careful with delicate pieces and avoid harsh rubbing. After cleaning, rinse or wipe the jewellery with a damp cloth to remove any remaining paste. This helps bring back the shine and makes the items look newer and well-maintained.

Get rid of bad smell

Strong smells can stick to hands after handling foods like fish, onions, or garlic. Even after washing with soap, the odour may remain. Toothpaste can help remove these lingering smells.

Simply rub a small amount on your hands, scrub for a few seconds, and rinse off with water. The cleaning agents in toothpaste help neutralise odours and leave the hands feeling fresh. This method can also be used when soap alone is not effective in removing stubborn smells.

Toothpaste is more than just a product for brushing teeth. Its cleaning and deodorising properties make it useful in many everyday situations. From removing stains to restoring shine and eliminating odours, it offers simple and affordable solutions around the home. Using these hacks can help you save time and reduce the need for extra cleaning products.
