The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has launched a new voter registration drive across the country to give citizens time to add their names to the roll.
The process is simple and designed to ensure every eligible voter can take part in choosing leaders when election day arrives.

Key requirements
To qualify, you must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 years and above. The only documents accepted are the original national identity card or a valid Kenyan passport.
Waiting cards and photocopies are not recognised. Once you have your ID or passport you can walk into your constituency IEBC office or a Huduma Centre.
Mobile teams have also been deployed to busy areas such as markets and schools to make registration accessible.

At the centre an IEBC officer will request your details, which include your name, date of birth and place of residence. These are entered into the Biometric Voter Registration system.
Your photograph, fingerprints and iris are captured to make sure no one can register twice. Once the process is complete, you receive an acknowledgement slip.
Keep it safe as it is proof of registration, although your details remain valid even if you lose it.

How to confirm your details
After registration, it is important to confirm that your name is correctly listed. IEBC provides an online voter verification portal where you can check using your ID or passport number and year of birth.
This step ensures that your polling station details are correct. If there are any errors, you should visit your constituency office immediately to request a correction.
For those who have moved from one area to another, it is possible to transfer your polling station. This must be done in person at the new constituency office using the same ID or passport used during your first registration.
Transfers are not allowed online and can only be handled directly by IEBC officials.

Elsewhere, Kenyans have been urged to be patient with IEBC’s new leadership team and give it a fair chance to prove its credibility ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The entire registration exercise is free of charge. It takes only a few minutes if you carry the required documents.
With the 2027 elections drawing closer, Kenyans need to register early and avoid the last-minute rush.
