2023 recorded few high-profile weddings as compared to high-profile breakups and divorces, as per the available data.
However, it might be a unique year which recorded a wedding between two elected MPs, which has not been the norm in the Kenyan political arena. Normally, any affair between the “honourable” elected members is kept under wraps, only being talked about in low tones.
Here’s a list of high-profile weddings that happened in 2023;
Murang’a Woman Rep and Mathira MP
The wedding between Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and Mathira MP Eric Mwangi Wamumbi can be touted as the wedding of the year.
The two tied the knot in a colourful traditional wedding held in Kigumo, Murang’a County on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
The wedding was attended by a host of high-profile leaders including President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Indeed, this engagement is a beautiful social and spiritual venture ordained by God to ensure companionship and continuity. As they begin formalizing their union today in Kericho County, I pray that God’s grace, guidance and blessings be always upon them,” Gideon Moi wrote in May 2023.
