Wanaogopa: DJ Kezz’s new gospel hit is taking over despite her conversion to Islam

Gospel musician and disc jockey Keziah Jerono, widely known as DJ Kezz, is once again trending online following the release of her latest gospel song titled Wanaogopa, a track that is quickly gaining attention across social media and music platforms.

The new release comes months after DJ Kezz publicly announced that she had converted to Islam, a move that surprised many of her fans.

Despite the religious transition, the entertainer has continued to release gospel-inspired music.

Wanaogopa marks the second song she has released since announcing her conversion. Her first release after the announcement was a testimonial track titled Ushuhuda, where she collaborated with a popular SDA (Seventh-day Adventist) music group, Msanii Music Group.

The song focused on sharing personal testimony and gratitude, reflecting on her spiritual journey and life experiences.

Embracing Islam

Taking to her official social media channels, the former DJ posted a heartwarming photo of herself with her daughter dressed in Islamic attire.

She expressed her gratitude and announced that they had taken their Shahadah, the central declaration of faith in Islam, considered the religion’s first pillar.

The mother of one further stated that the Shahadah marked the beginning of what she described as the most beautiful chapter yet.

After the announcement, fans asked if she had converted to Islam, and she confirmed that she is now a Muslim.

“Alhamdulillah. We’ve taken Our Shahada. This is the beginning of the most beautiful chapter yet!,” she announced.

“I am now a Muslim.”

In addition, the energetic entertainer revealed that her Muslim name is Zziah, while her daughter’s is Liyana.

Spiritual journey

She rose to prominence as a Seventh‑day Adventist (SDA) musician and gospel disc jockey.

Her journey is one of profound struggle, transformation, and spiritual seeking. Her conversion to Islam introduces a significant and deeply personal shift in her spiritual path.

“My walk with God didn’t begin in church, and it didn’t end there. I’ve been walking a spiritual journey for years, asking hard questions, loving Jesus, studying faiths, and letting God speak in unexpected places,” she said.

“My choice to follow the Islamic path isn’t sudden, it’s sacred. It’s honest. It’s mine. I honour where I’ve been, and I honour where I’m going. Faith isn’t a box. It’s a calling. And I still answer.”
