Tuju resurfaces, details his scary ordeal
Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has resurfaced hours after he was reported missing and explained his whereabouts and the circumstances leading to his reported disappearance.
Tuju addressed the press on Monday, March 23, 2026, expressing that he is grateful to be alive, bearing in mind the many deaths that have been reported in the country and shared his scary ordeal.
He recounted that in the days preceding the incident, he recorded a statement with the police after noting a suspicious vehicle trailing him and shared the report number.
Scary ordeal
Tuju recounted that the events on Saturday evening, when he was reported missing, left him shaken after he noticed a vehicle without number plates trailing his car.

“Unfortunately, on Saturday, I was supposed to go for an interview at Ramogi FM. I had made a commitment to go there. Then again, the same vehicle, and this time a little more concerning, as the vehicle didn’t have plate numbers and having experienced last when close to twenty police LandRovers came to my premises, and some of them didn’t have plate numbers,” Tuju said.
He revealed that he was the one behind the wheel of the suspicious vehicle, closing in by the time he reached Karen Roundabout.
“I was the one driving. I tend to drive myself more often, and by the time I reached Karen roundabout, they really closed in, and they were making sure that they were back-to-back with me,” he stated.
Tuju: Knowledge of Karen came through for me
His thorough knowledge of the area made a big difference as he was able to shake off the vehicle that was training him.

“So fortunately, I know Karen very well, and I branched into Nandi Road. They were not able to branch. If you go, you can see how that Road is structured there, so it meant that they either had to turn and face the oncoming traffic to follow me or they had to go around. That’s how I lost them,” he narrated.
The former CS recounted that after shaking off the suspicious car and its occupants, he dumped his car along the road and sought refuge, with a family taking him in.
He added that he stayed with the family until Sunday night, when he went to his home.
