Miss P opens up about journey from modest beginnings in Jogoo Road to life in Karen
Musician Miss P has opened up about her journey from growing up in modest areas to later living in Karen, saying she has never allowed her past environment to define her.
In an interview with Oga Obinna on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, she explained that her background shaped her but did not limit how she presents herself or her goals in life.
She said she was born at a well-known public hospital before spending her early years in different parts of the city. She explained that her childhood included time in Mbotela along Jogoo Road and later in Kariobangi South. She added that these experiences formed part of her early life.

“I was born in Kenyatta Hospital. So I was raised ….I grew up in …part of my childhood was Mbotela, Jogoo Road, then tukatoka huko tukaenda Kariobangi South huko civil servant,” Miss P said.
She explained that despite moving through areas that are often seen as less privileged, she remained focused on her own path. She said she made a personal decision not to let her surroundings control how she behaves or carries herself. She added that mindset played a key role in her growth.
“But I have never succumbed to my environment,” Miss P said.

She said she always believed she could choose how to present herself, regardless of where she came from. She explained that she did not want to be defined by stereotypes linked to certain neighbourhoods. She also added that her mother never allowed her to interact with other kids, and she was sort of a loner in school.

“So I would not behave or appear as if I had grown up in these environments,” Miss P explained.
She said her life later changed when her family moved to Karen after she completed primary school. She explained that this shift marked a new chapter during her teenage years. She added that she has spent a significant part of her life there.
“So the better part of my teenagehood, we moved to Karen,” Miss P said.
She explained that Karen offered a different setting compared to where she had lived before.
“That was after nimemaliza primary school, yeah,” she said.
