TikToker Kawira likens self to Salasya, reveals she won’t quit TikTok if she wins MCA seat

TikToker Anne Kawira has revealed that she intends to continue her TikTok career even if she is elected as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Athiru Gaiti Ward.
Speaking in an interview aired live on her page on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Kawira likened herself to Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, noting that the lawmaker maintains a public social media presence while effectively serving his constituents.
“For a leader, it’s not that they can’t stay on TikTok. And even if you choose a pastor because he looks holy, it doesn’t automatically mean he will deliver as a leader. Look at the example of Mumias East MP Peter Salasya,” she shared.
She said that just as Salasya remains active on TikTok without compromising his role as an elected official, she believes she can balance her creative career with public service.
“He is a free man; he is on TikTok, can do anything dramatic, and still remains a leader,” Kawira said.

Kawira then explained that she has made a conscious effort to steer clear of scandals in recent months, contrasting her current online presence with the past when she was frequently involved in controversies and trending for the wrong reasons.
She said that being a leader does not require abandoning her passions or online engagements.
“And I understand that being a famous TikToker comes with an impact, and people have perceptions because I ask for money on the app, and scandals about me are always there. But if you look at my TikTok now and compare it with back then, you will note that previously I was always in scandals and dramas. I was trending for the wrong reasons. But for the last few months, I have made efforts to steer clear of drama,’ she added.
The content creator also revealed that she plans to further her education if elected, with a focus on studies related to politics.
“So if my happiness is on TikTok, I should not ditch it just because I am becoming an MCA. And if I become an MCA, I will also want to pursue more education. I will study something related to politics because I love politics so much,” the TikToker said.
Kawira, who once went to work in the Gulf, then addressed criticisms regarding her qualifications, stating that some people doubted whether she met the requirements to vie for an MCA seat, citing issues like her English skills and educational background.
She said she finds such criticisms unfounded, noting that many who judge her publicly do not know her personally or the year she completed school.
“When I said I wanted to vie for MCA, some people were very negative. Some said my English would embarrass me, and others wondered whether I knew the requirements needed to vie. Some insisted that I should know that an MCA needs to have completed Form Four and have at least a college certificate. And I wonder if they know me. They don’t even know the year when I completed school, but you will see some just judging anyhow,” Kawira shared.
