Kenyan musician Kelvin Bahati has warned that there is no award one gets for being poor.

In a post on X on Friday, February 27, 2026, Bahati warned that those who say money is the root of all evil do not fully understand what they are saying.

Bahati’s message to fans

The self-declared Ghetto President spoke from personal experience, saying he has lived on both sides of life.

“They say money is evil. I have tasted both money and poverty. I can confidently confirm there’s no glory in poverty,” Bahati wrote.

Bahati has never hidden his humble background. Rising from a difficult childhood to become one of Kenya’s biggest music stars, he often shares motivational messages with his fans.

This time, his message was clear. Work hard. Stay focused. Do not romanticise struggle.

“Hustle ya leo ijipe watu wangu,” he added, encouraging his followers to put in the work today for a better tomorrow.

He described every sunrise as another chance to start again.

“Every sunrise is a reminder of a fresh start, new energy, a new race to run. Run it harder than you ever have before. Hakuna uwoga, hakuna excuses,” he said.

Fans’ response

Many of his fans agreed with him, saying poverty is not something to celebrate. Some shared their own stories of struggle, thanking him for reminding them to keep pushing.

Others praised him for always speaking openly about growth, money, and ambition without pretending that success comes easy.

Bahati ended his message warmly, wishing his followers a blessed day and signing off as The Ghetto President.

For many young people who look up to him, his words were not just about money, but about hope. A reminder that where you start does not have to define where you finish.
