Terrence Creative asks Kenyans to halt the tree-hugging challenges

Terrence Creative has asked Kenyans to stop the ongoing tree-hugging challenge.
He said that while the idea was fun at first, some people have suffered serious issues, including fainting and kidney problems. He wants Kenyans to focus on other challenges instead.
“Aki hii mambo ya tree hugging ni mzuri sana. Tumesha break hiyo record. Watu wengi wame break, and many people are jumping into this challenge. Kuna mzee wa sijui 62 years alifaint kuna mwingine alifanya sijui nini, tumekua na issue ya kidney failure. Mimi venye najua .. I need someone to do us a favour, ” he said on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Terrence suggested shifting attention to other record-breaking activities.

He said, “Tupatie research ya 15 challenges zenye ziko less 24 hours kwenye Guinness Book of records tuzichukue, tuzi break. Wakenya tugawane.”
He said that tree-hugging had already been completed successfully by Truphena, who was the first to finish.
“Tree hugging sasa tufunge,” he added, urging people to move on.
Exploring other alternatives
Terrence asked researchers to identify around 50 other challenges that Kenyans could attempt.
He said, “Watu wa research mfanye vile mnafanyanga. Tafuteni kama 50 challenges.”
The Ministry of Health had earlier issued a warning about prolonged tree hugging. Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni said engaging in such activities without proper medical checks and physical preparation is dangerous.

She said, “Some individuals have collapsed and ended up in hospital after hugging trees for long periods.”
Muthoni spoke during a burial ceremony in Ngiriambu, Gichugu constituency in Kirinyaga County on Thursday, January 15, 2026. She said that proper preparation and rehearsal are critical before attempting any physically demanding activity.
“Proper preparation and rehearsal are also critical,” she added, highlighting the risks of ignoring safety measures.
With health authorities cautioning the public and Terrence Creative calling for an end to the challenge, tree hugging has had its moment, but continuing it without care could have serious consequences.
Citizens are being urged to explore safer ways to participate in record-breaking activities while protecting their health.
