Tanzanian influencer Chief Godlove speaks on reason people blame witchcraft after facing hardships

Tanzanian influencer Godlove Mwakibete, popularly known as Chief Godlove, has spoken on why many people continue blaming witchcraft, curses and bad luck for the setbacks they experience in life, arguing that in some cases the real problem lies in the people they choose to keep around them.

Speaking in an Instagram video on Friday, May 22, 2026, Chief dismissed the belief that every struggle or failure in life is caused by supernatural forces, insisting that some individuals are being negatively affected by toxic relationships and unhealthy attachments rather than curses or witchcraft.

According to the influencer, many people are too emotionally attached to certain friends, lovers or even relatives who continuously hurt them, betray them or hold them back from progressing in life.

“You have not been bewitched, and you are not carrying a family curse. You are not unlucky. Reduce the number of people around you. There are people you have held onto so tightly in your life, and they are the reason you are not progressing,” Chief said.

He explained that some people wrongly interpret repeated disappointments and emotional pain as signs of bad luck or family curses, yet the actual issue could simply be the harmful people surrounding them.

Chief further argued that some individuals continue to suffer because they refuse to distance themselves from toxic circles, despite repeatedly being mistreated or emotionally drained.

“If you keep clinging to certain people and constantly surrounding yourself with them, they will continue hurting you and bringing negativity into your life. Those people you call your friends are actually the ones betraying you,” he explained.

The influencer also warned that some people pretending to be genuine friends are secretly contributing to the struggles and frustrations others experience, saying betrayal often comes from those closest to a person.

He emphasised that not every setback should immediately be linked to witchcraft, curses or spiritual attacks, urging followers to first evaluate the kind of relationships they maintain in their lives.

According to him, clinging too tightly to the wrong people can leave someone constantly hurt, emotionally exhausted and unable to move forward, eventually making them feel as though they are cursed or unlucky.

“You have not been bewitched, and you do not have bad luck; let me repeat that again. Your problem is not curses or misfortune; it is the people you are holding onto too much. They could be lovers, friends, or even family members. If you continue holding onto them, you will keep getting hurt, you will continue feeling worthless, and you will continue experiencing problems in your life. Distance yourself from such people,” he said.
