The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced a nationwide service disruption affecting its services all over the nation.

SHA notified stakeholders of the outage via a statement, which was released on Monday, March 2, 2026.

The statement, which was posted on the authority’s social media platforms, announced that the disruption was caused by a critical system failure that happened on March 1, 2026.

It detailed the nature of the disruption that affected operations at health facilities all over the country and assured stakeholders of a speedy resolution.

“This is to formally notify you of a service interruption and downtime affecting the Digital Health Agency’s services, which are critical to the Social Health Authority (SHA) operations. We have received notification from our service provider, Digital Health Agency, indicating a major incident leading to significant system unavailability,” the statement read.

SHA noted that the incident has led to significant disruption of essential healthcare service delivery across contracted healthcare facilities, specifically affecting pre-authorisation processes.

“Following a critical system failure on 1st March 2026, the SHA digital platform has experienced downtime. This outage has interrupted essential healthcare service delivery across contracted healthcare facilities, specifically affecting pre-authorisation processes,” the SHA added.

Operations impacted

The authority assured stakeholders that it was working around the clock with the Digital Health Agency to restore normal operations.

“We understand the critical nature of these services for your daily operations and patient care, and we sincerely apologise for the significant inconvenience and disruption this is causing.

“Our technical teams, in close collaboration with the Digital Health Agency, are fully mobilised and working with the highest urgency to identify the root cause and restore full functionality as quickly as possible.

“We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging period. We are committed to resolving this issue urgently. Regular updates will be shared with you until full, reliable service restoration is achieved,” added the statement.

Billions spent on SHA system

SHA was unveiled by President William Ruto as the solution to making quality healthcare affordable to Kenyans, with taxpayers digging deeper into their pockets.

The new system that was rolled out saw the government sink KSh 104.8 billion as it sought to streamline healthcare services in Kenya.

A section of Kenyans have continued to raise issues with the healthcare services in the country, stretched thin.

From staffing to equipment, hospitals across the country continue to strain from a myriad of challenges.
