Renowned businessman Mofarm challenges Kaluma boy to seek employment

A public exchange between businessman Mofarm JM and content creator Kaluma Boy has raised conversation online, with Mofarm advising the young TikToker to consider focusing on stable employment instead of relying heavily on social media attention.

Mofarm, a Kenyan businessman known for his involvement in community support initiatives, has been in the public eye in recent months after supporting Kaluma Boy’s family during a difficult period.

His assistance, which included helping improve the family’s living conditions in Nyeri, placed him at the centre of a story that had already gone viral across social media platforms.

Kaluma Boy became widely known in 2025 after posting emotional TikTok videos showing his life while caring for his sick father. The videos, shown in their rural home in Othaya, showed him balancing farm work and caregiving duties, a reality that resonated with many Kenyans and quickly pushed him into the spotlight.

Speaking during a recent public engagement, Mofarm challenged the young creator to think beyond online fame and consider long-term stability.

“Social media can open doors, but it should not be the only plan. At some point, young people need to focus on building themselves through employment or structured business opportunities that can sustain them in the future.’ Mofarm said.

He added that while Kaluma Boy’s story had touched many people, it was important for him to use the attention wisely. “You have been given visibility that many people do not get. The next step should be stability, not just trends,” he said.

Kaluma Boy, who has received both support and criticism since he became known to the public, has in the past expressed gratitude for the assistance he has received from public figures. His journey has included scholarship opportunities and community support, which have helped ease some of the financial pressure on his family.

Priority

In response to the ongoing discussion, Kaluma Boy maintained that his priority remains improving his life and that of his family while still navigating his online presence.

“I am grateful for everything that has come my way. My focus is still my education and helping my family,” he said. “Content creation came unexpectedly, but I am learning how to balance it with real-life responsibilities.”

He added that he understands the concerns raised by Mofarm and other observers. “I know people want the best for me. I am still figuring out my next steps, but I am not ignoring advice,” he said.

Mofarm, who has built a reputation for blending business with philanthropy, continues to engage in community-driven projects, often stepping in to support vulnerable families. His remarks have, however, divided opinion online, with some agreeing with his perspective while others feel that Kaluma Boy’s story reflects the changing realities of youth opportunities in the digital age.

Both figures remain at the centre of public attention, showing the growing conversation around social media fame, responsibility, and the search for sustainable livelihoods among young Kenyans.
