Pretty Vishy calls out forex traders mocking Kenyans struggling with rising fuel prices
Digital content creator and influencer Pretty Vishy has sparked conversation online after calling out forex traders who have been mocking Kenyans struggling with the rising cost of living.
In a video shared on her social media account late on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, she challenged the idea that small amounts of money, like 50 shillings, are insignificant. She argued that while such an amount may seem minor to high earners, it carries real weight for many Kenyans struggling to survive daily life.
“To you, that Ksh50 bob is nothing and it’s okay, but for you coming online to rant that if we cannot afford things, we should work hard. Do you know how many people encounter sleepless nights to work and get that 50 shillings?” she posed.
The comments follow remarks by a forex trader, who told followers not to complain about fuel prices and instead focus on working harder to afford their lifestyles. ,
“You see these forex people who come online to start telling people that if you can’t afford fuel, you should go and work hard. These are people who are supposed to be beaten properly,” she said.

Pressure on common citizens
Vishy maintained that telling struggling Kenyans to simply “work harder” ignores the reality of exhaustion and the low income many people face. She said many are already working long hours only to earn what she described as “peanuts.”
She also suggested that those who go online to shame others for financial struggles should be more responsible with their influence, arguing that such remarks make people feel “stupid” for simply trying to survive.

Fuel prices and cost of living pressure
Her remarks come at a time when fuel prices in Kenya have remained a hot topic. According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), in the latest announcement, they stated that in Nairobi, diesel prices have reduced by Ksh10.06 per litre, while kerosene has increased by Ksh38.60 per litre. This means that in Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene now retail at Ksh214.25, Ksh232.86, and Ksh191.38, respectively.
Online money debate grows
The remarks made by the forex trader have triggered a wider debate online about wealth culture, digital trading success, and the realities faced by ordinary workers. Vishy maintains that while success in digital markets is valid, it should not be used as a tool to belittle those who are still struggling.
