Nyako: My TikTok gifters were the reason for my downfall

Germany-based Kenyan TikToker Roseline Ngolo, popularly known as Nyako, has opened up about what she says led to her fall from prominence on the platform, blaming it largely on the same gifters who once fuelled her rise.

Speaking during a TikTok live on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Nyako said her downfall began when her supporters started gifting her heavily and later turned against her after she showcased how she spent the money.

According to Nyako, her gifters began questioning why they were sending gifts to someone who appeared to be living a better life than them, a shift in attitude she says marked the beginning of her decline.

“In my case, my gifters were the reason for my downfall. They gifted me, but they expected me not to show what I was doing with the money. When I started showing how I was living my life, they became angry. They started asking why they were gifting a woman who was living a better life than them. That is how everything started going wrong for me,” Nyako shared.

She explained that at the height of her popularity, gifts would flow effortlessly during her livestreams, sometimes without her even asking viewers to tap the screen.

However, she said the support suddenly stopped, reinforcing her belief that TikTok fame and financial success are temporary.

“Let me tell you one thing: TikTok is seasonal. Today it is one person; tomorrow it is another. I don’t know why people don’t learn from me. I used to be very big on this platform. I didn’t even need to ask people to tap the screen; gifts would just roll in. Then suddenly, boom, everything went down. Just like that. And that is okay, because this is TikTok,” she narrated.

Nyako cautioned creators against becoming too comfortable, noting that TikTok success is seasonal and unpredictable. She warned that every creator, regardless of how big they are, eventually faces a downfall.

“Everyone has a downfall, even if you hide your development under the bed. One day, it will still come,” she said.

Warning to Sheryl Gabriella

Nyako then linked her experience to a recent TikTok incident involving Sheryl Gabriella, a fast-rising Kenyan content creator who has become one of the most gifted TikTokers on the platform.

According to Nyako, Sheryl recently took part in a gifting match — a popular TikTok feature where creators compete live to see who receives the most gifts. Despite her strong gifting record, Sheryl lost the match.

Nyako claimed that after the match, the opposing side went live and held a discussion that focused on Sheryl, which she described as excessive and unnecessary.

“Did you all see the meeting that TikTok gifters held? I have never seen, in my life, gifters coming together just to speak about someone. I am only analysing what I saw. I joined that meeting using a pseudo account, and I watched them give their opinions,” she said.

She said she joined the live session using a pseudonymous account and observed several people, mostly men, giving opinions about Sheryl.

“What shocked me is that the meeting was full of men, so men now gossip? Gossiping about a woman? In that live, Sheryl Gabriella was also being discussed, and honestly, I felt sorry for her because of how badly she was spoken about,” she added.

Nyako expressed concern over what she described as gossip and bullying, questioning why a group of people would come together to speak negatively about one individual over a TikTok match.

She said she felt sorry for Sheryl over how she was discussed, while also advising her to be cautious about the spaces she chooses to engage in and the people she allows around her.

“You don’t gather about ten people to talk about and bully someone just because you beat them in a gifting match. Someone loses a match, and suddenly people sit down to gossip because she doesn’t have gifters or because she gifts others a lot; that is not right. At the same time, Sheryl also needs to respect herself and put herself in spaces where she will be respected, even when it comes to TikTok gifts. Some things should not be entertained,” she said.
