‘My heart broke’ – Wanja Nyarari reveals message received before death struck

Social media personality Wanja Nyarari has revealed the content of a handwritten note she received from her mother figure, Nancy Wanjiku Wanja, hours before death struck.

Nyarari recounted that she was contacted by a doctor based at the Kenyatta National Hospital Prime Care Centre who informed her that he was sending a handwritten note penned by her mother figure.

“He told me he was sending me a written note via WhatsApp, written by my Iron Lady herself. When I opened it, my heart broke,” Nyarari stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The note, which moved her to tears, instructed her to bring the children to the hospital to say goodbye to their grandmother.

“Please call Wanja and tell her to bring the children to me to say goodbye.” 🥺🥺🥺. I started crying immediately. There was no way I was going to bring my children to say goodbye, because I did not want her to go. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want to accept that this was real,” Nyarari added.

What made Wanja Nyarari change her mind

The request was repeatedly made during her visit to the hospital, and she eventually organised for the children to be brought.

“Call the children. Bring them to say goodbye. At first, I dismissed it. I told myself she was hallucinating. I wasn’t ready to hear the truth,” another note handed to her during the visit stated.

Before organising for the children to be brought, Nyarari contacted her reverend and requested her to join the family for prayers after sharing what was happening.

Hand-written messages

Each of the children received a handwritten note from their ailing grandmother.

She started with Alyssa, Wakili and wrote to her: “When you go to high school, behave well, work hard, and don’t give Mum stress. She turned to Eng. John last born and wrote: “You also need to work hard. I know your mum is always ready to sacrifice her life just to make sure you are okay.”

She finished with Ted but requested that they leave, but the lastborn went back for a final goodbye.

Then she turned to Arch. Ted and wrote: “Ted, you must achieve your architecture degree no matter what. Don’t give Mum stress. She has sacrificed too much for you.”

She put the pen down, looked at them, and said, “bye. Now you guys can go”.

A few days later, on January 14, 2026, her mother figure died.
