Mosiria defends decision to sponsor Mbavu Destroyer before Majembe fight

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has defended his decision to sponsor rising boxer Mbavu Destroyer ahead of his upcoming match with Majembe.
Speaking during an interview with a local YouTuber on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Mosiria explained that it was a move to help the young fighter develop proper skills.
Mosiria further revealed that Mbavu Destroyer was preparing alone, without anyone to guide or support him.
He explained that he aims to ensure Mbavu Destroyer develops proper boxing skills rather than relying on street fighting.

Boxing skills
Mosiria revealed that he had sourced one of the country’s best trainers, who has previously trained champions, and has secured a gym for Mbavu Destroyer. Over the next three months, the young fighter will train daily to gain the technical and strategic skills required for professional boxing.
“Nimemutafutia, one of the best trainers in this country, ambaye ametrain champions in this country, na tumelipa gym na trainer na for the next three months atakuwa anatrain daily na atakuwa equipped with skills,” he added.
“Atafunzwa jinsi ataenda kupigana ndio asiende pale apigane ile ya streets.I will support him and get him accommodation near the training center. I am supporting him as a Kenyan and I believe he has the potential, and I believe that is the only best thing I could do to a young man to better his career.”

Professional training
While confirming the development via a statement on his social media accounts on Monday, February 9, 2026, Mosiria stated that the move is necessary to sharpen Mbavu’s skills, as he also benefits from training and mentorship.
“Today, I officially enrolled Mbavu Destroyer in a private boxing academy where athletes receive professional training and mentorship to sharpen their skills. This step is aimed at fully equipping him ahead of his highly anticipated boxing match against Majembe.
Mosiria promised to support the boxer in his preparation, exuding confidence that he will floor Majembe in the highly anticipated boxing match.
“I will personally support him with everything necessary to ensure he gets the best preparation possible and steps into the ring confident, strong, and ready to win.
