Late Gusii singer Van Quiz’s mother reveals he was on life support before passing
Winnie Ngiti, the mother of late Gusii singer Van Quiz, has given an emotional account of her son’s final days, revealing that he was on life support before he passed away at Tabaka Mission Hospital.
According to his mother, Van Quiz, who was the second-born in his family, had been battling health issues that worsened in recent months.
Speaking when a local YouTuber visited her home on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the mother explained that the singer’s condition became more serious following the shutdown of his YouTube channels, which significantly affected his finances.
“He had a health issue, but his condition worsened after his YouTube channels were shut down, which dealt a big blow to his finances. He changed after another channel was also shut down,” she said.
She expressed belief that the setback contributed to her son’s mental health challenges. She described how he sometimes spoke to himself and became increasingly withdrawn after his online platforms stopped working.
“He would sometimes talk to himself and developed mental health challenges, which I believe were fuelled by the struggles with his work,” the mother narrated.

She also revealed the timeline of his last hours, noting that on Thursday, he was placed on life support.
Earlier that day, Van Quiz had told her that his stomach was feeling okay, but when she called the hospital around 7 p.m., she was informed that he was no longer speaking.
“He was on life support on Thursday. He told me earlier that his stomach was okay, but when I called at 7 p.m., I was told he was no longer speaking,” she stated.
She added that the family is now grappling to come to terms with the sudden loss of the talented singer, who was known for his contributions to the Gusii music scene.
At the same time, she appealed for support, saying that she has nothing and is seeking help during this difficult time.
“Van Quiz is survived by his wife and child. He passed away after a short illness. I have nothing, and I am asking for help during this difficult time. He passed away at Tabaka Mission Hospital. The deceased was our second-born child,” she revealed.
Untimely passing
In the emotional post, Felisters revealed that she had struggled to accept what had happened, recalling the painful moment he held her hand as if he was saying his final goodbye.
“Haikuwa serious hivi, beb; nitaambia nn mtoi😭😭😭,” she wrote, expressing the deep pain of losing him and wondering how she would break the devastating news to their child.
Felisters added that she had not believed what she was seeing at the time, saying the moment Van Quiz held her hand now felt like a silent farewell.
“RIP, dear husband. Sijaamini macho yangu kumbe ulinishika mkono kuniambia byeee,” she wrote.

Hours before news of his death emerged, Felisters had shared an update indicating that the singer had been hospitalised.

According to family members, the artiste had initially developed what appeared to be a minor illness before his condition deteriorated rapidly.
