Jimmy Gait reveals how calling the name Jesus saved him after thieves vowed to end his life

Gospel musician Jimmy Gait has recounted a terrifying encounter with armed robbers, claiming that calling on the name “Jesus” loudly is what ultimately saved his life during the incident.

Speaking in an interview with Muhia Wa Maingi on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the ‘Huratiti’ hitmaker narrated that the ordeal began when he was ambushed by a group of robbers who took control of the situation and threatened to kill him.

He said he pleaded with the attackers to spare his life, begging them to take his belongings instead of harming him.

“I begged them, pleading, please do not kill me. I told them please take everything, including the phone, but do not kill me. There was one big guy among the robbers and I saw him pull out a huge machete from his jacket. I realised these guys were going to kill me, and I begged them again not to kill me,” he said.

Jimmy Gait claimed that one of the attackers produced a large machete and advanced towards him, warning him not to resist. According to him, the situation escalated quickly as the attackers insisted they would harm him for raising an alarm.

He further revealed that the man attempted to strike his neck with the machete after warning him that they would kill him slowly. It was at that moment, he said, that he instinctively reacted and raised his hand in defence, resulting in his fingers being injured.

He described the moment as chaotic and frightening, saying he realised the attackers were serious about carrying out their threat.

“The man came towards me to cut my neck and said they had warned me not to shout but I did not listen, so he said he would kill me because of that. He said they were going to kill me slowly. He raised the machete and was about to cut my neck when I lifted my hand and caught the machete, and that is how my fingers were sliced, one finger was cut almost falling off,” the singer shared.

According to him, the situation changed immediately after he shouted the name Jesus, claiming the attackers stepped back and appeared unsettled.

He added that the group then instructed him to leave without looking back, a moment he believes marked the end of the ordeal and the beginning of his escape.

“I was so shocked because I saw they were serious and they were going to kill me. At that moment I shouted loudly, ‘Jesus!’ I shouted very loudly, and when I did that they stepped two steps backwards. After that they told me to go away and not to look back. That is how my life was saved,” he said.

Jimmy Gait said the experience left him deeply shaken but strengthened his faith, insisting that the name Jesus carried power that intervened at a critical moment in his life.

“The name Jesus saved my life. Those thugs were serious and they wanted to kill me, but from that day I knew the name Jesus has a lot of power,” he added.
