Jimal Rohosafi proposes door-to-door strategy of registering voters

Businessman Jimal Rohosafi has suggested that voter registration officials should adopt a door-to-door approach to reach more Kenyans.

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, he jokingly said the current system may not reach everyone eligible to register. He explained that a more direct method would help increase the number of registered voters.

According to Jimal, officials should move around communities instead of waiting for people to visit registration centres so that it would make the process easier and more accessible for many people, even as the Niko Kadi campaign continues to gather pace across the country.

“Hawa officials wa kuregister voters wanafaa kuzunguka kama wasee wa polio,” Jimal Rohosafi said.

He suggested that the comparison to polio teams shows how movement across neighbourhoods can improve coverage. He said the idea is meant to make sure no eligible voter is left out. He highlighted that some people may not have the time or the means to travel to registration centres.

IEBC rolls out voter registration drive

This comes even as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already launched a nationwide voter registration exercise. The commission said the exercise is part of preparations for the 2027 General Election. The process will run for a set period across the country.

In a statement shared on March 30, 2026, the commission said the exercise will last for 30 days. It explained that the registration started and will continue until April 28, 2026.

The commission said it is targeting to register 2.5 million new voters during the exercise. It explained that the goal is to increase the number of people who can take part in the next election. It added that the focus is on expanding access across different regions.

IEBC Chairperson Erustus Ethekon said the exercise is an important step in election planning. He explained that the commission is working to improve participation among citizens, adding that young people and first-time voters are a key focus in the drive. The nationwide exercise is meant to make registration more accessible.
