Missing the special moment left her with feelings of guilt, which she embraced and unpacked in an insightful statement on her social media platforms.

“Yesterday left me riddled with guilt for not being able to stay back and watch my son compete…win 🙁 I am still carrying that feeling this morning, sitting with the truth that sometimes we are asked to hold two things at once: presence and absence, commitment and longing, strength and softness. Dualities, babe, dualities.:” Mbugua wrote on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
