Kibera-based digital creator Duty Boy Stylish has shared how he cracked the code of content creation, with money trickling in as he grew his presence on social media and partnered with brands.

The content creator became an internet sensation by sharing his daily experiences as he navigates the challenges of life in the slums.

He revealed in an interview with a local radio station on Friday, March 13, 2026, that the key to his success has been authenticity, embracing the struggles of everyday life in the slum while boldly sharing his experience with his audience.

Embracing daily struggles

According to Duty Boy, most of his agemates prefer to present an image that they are doing well, but he chose to be authentic in his content, presenting his life as it is, and won the hearts of netizens.

“My agemates hakuna mtu anatakanga kuembrace the struggle; kila mtu hutaka kuonesha maisha yake iko chonjo. Mimi nilikuwa naembrace the struggle, naonyesha kabisa leo kejani hakuna chakula,” he said.

This loosely translates to: “My agemates shy away from embracing the struggles and prefer to paint an image that their lives are fine. Unlike them, I embraced the struggles, showing the reality as it is, including when there was no food at home”.

He added that while many run away from their humble roots, he chose to stay grounded in Kibera rather than post content produced elsewhere.

“Kwa mtandao unapata msee ni wa Kibera lakini posts zake zote ni za Kilimani. Mimi nilikuwa naonesha mimi ni wa Kibera na mimi ni wa Kibera kamili,” he added.

His lifestyle content captured the life of a young man going through life, hustling for a living in the slums while still keeping it real and sharing his experiences.

Making money from his content

With time, his efforts paid off when brands came calling for partnerships that translated into money.

He revealed that alcohol brands approached him with lucrative deals, which he turned down upon deep reflection.

The social media sensation stated that he does not partner with alcohol brands, as he does not want his brand to be associated with them.

“Brands za pombe pia zilikuwa zinaniapproach, yeah, lakini niko zile za ‘nataka kweli brand yangu na image yangu ikae hivi?’ Duto Boy said as he revealed why he does not partner with alcohol brands.
