Gospel singer Njeru Thiga travels to India for cancer treatment after fundraising appeal

Kikuyu Kigooco singer Peter Njeru Thiga has finally travelled to India to seek specialised cancer treatment, just days after his family made an emotional appeal for hospital funds.
In a post shared on Facebook by his close friend and fellow musician Karangu Muraya on Friday, December 19, 2025, Njeru is seen posing at the departure lounge with his wife, Njambi, looking elated that arrangements for his treatment were completed in just a few days.
In the caption, Karangu confirmed that Njeru had travelled to India for treatment and urged fans to continue supporting and praying for him.
“May India favour you, my brother, Njeru Thiga. May healing be your portion in Jesus’ mighty name. Thank you all for supporting this man of God,” Karangu shared.
Karangu also expressed gratitude to all artistes and well-wishers who had contributed to the fundraising efforts, noting that collective support had made it possible for Njeru to travel quickly for the treatment.
“Continue praying and supporting him through his number (+254725322726 Peter Njeru Thiga),” he wrote.

The development comes exactly one month and three days after the death of revered Kikuyu gospel singer Betty Bayo from blood cancer, and only days after Njeru and his wife publicly revealed his intestinal cancer diagnosis.
In a Facebook livestream on December 13, 2025, the family, along with Karangu, appealed for prayers and contributions from fans and fellow artistes.
“Tonight, we are declaring that Njeru is not going anywhere. He will not die. He will go to India and return. We believe that three million shillings is not a lot of money. If people contribute even Ksh1,000 each, the amount can be raised, and he can travel to India as early as next week,” he said.

They also disclosed plans to convene church leaders and bishops for special prayers in the coming days.
“We are also planning to call upon bishops for special prayers, including Bishop Ben and Mwangi Zakayo. The medical report showing how fast the cancer has spread has just reached us. We are shocked because doctors say it is spreading very rapidly,” he said.
