Content creator GK Nyambura has spoken about joblessness and raising children while in university after reacting to a discussion about a university student who held a baby shower in a hostel.

She shared her thoughts in response to someone who called for others to show the student more grace.

The person had written, “Pro-life’s also okay; the lady who had a baby shower in a hostel, can people just give her some grace?”

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, GK Nyambura explained that families may not always react positively when someone gets pregnant while still in university. She said many parents would likely feel disappointed by the challenges of raising a child at that stage of life.

“Honestly, my family would be mad disappointed if I got pregnant in uni, so idk, I feel like this was a reaction she anticipated,” GK Nyambura said.

She also stated that being pro-choice means allowing people to make their own decisions about pregnancy. According to her, choosing to keep a pregnancy is still part of having that freedom of choice.

“Second, it’s okay to keep a pregnancy; the point of being prochoice is to allow someone a chance to make a decision,” GK Nyambura explained.

Debate on university pregnancies

GK Nyambura went on to speak about financial struggles and how society often reacts when less fortunate people decide to have children. She connected this to university life, saying many students are not financially stable at the time.

“Third, people have always had an opinion on whether less fortunate people should have kids, so the fact that she’s in uni kind of says she’s jobless, so how will she take care of the kid?” she said.

She also called on people to be respectful when sharing opinions about sensitive issues. According to her, people should express themselves without insulting or attacking others involved in such situations.

“People should be kind and should give their opinions without being disrespectful,” GK Nyambura stated.

At the same time, she maintained that most families would still struggle to celebrate a pregnancy happening while someone is still in university. She said many people discussing the matter online would likely react the same way if it involved someone close to them.

“But nobody who loves you will tell you congratulations after getting pregnant in uni. That’s just the plain truth,” GK Nyambura said.

“Most of the women giving think pieces would probably tell their sisters the same thing,” she added.
