Geoffrey Mosiria unveils plans to take Truphena Muthoni out for dinner

Former Nairobi County Environment CEC Geoffrey Mosiria has unveiled sweet plans to take young environmental activist Truphena Muthoni on a dinner date, praising her dedication and resilience.
Speaking during an interview with Shiku Gitau on Friday, December 12, 2025, Mosiria said he had not yet contacted Truphena directly but expressed his eagerness to meet her and support her environmental initiatives.

“About whether people will see me with Truphena soon, I would say I don’t have her number yet, but I would like to meet her and take her for dinner,” Mosiria said.
Mosiria drew attention to Truphena’s remarkable 72-hour tree-hugging challenge, comparing her perseverance and dedication to the loyalty he believes she would bring into a relationship.
He said her feat demonstrated endurance and commitment, suggesting that whoever marries Truphena would be fortunate.

On that note, he emphasised that if he were not married, he would personally consider marrying her, noting that her ability to hold onto a tree for 72 hours symbolised her steadfastness and ability to stay loyal in a marriage.
“She has also shown me that when a woman commits to someone, she should embrace and stick to that man, just like she hugged the tree. It’s not easy to hold onto a tree for 72 hours, and that means whoever marries Truphena will be lucky, because she will be a wife who remains devoted. She will stick to her husband for life. If I were not married, I would have married her, because I know she would not leave easily,” he said.

He also used her example to advise youth, particularly young women, to embrace persistence in relationships and personal goals.
“She will stick to her husband for life. I want to tell youth and girls that if they find a man, they should hold onto him like Truphena held onto the tree,” he added.
Lofty plans
In addition to his personal admiration, Mosiria outlined his intentions to help Truphena further her environmental advocacy.
He stated that he would engage with the Nairobi River Regeneration Commission to provide her with opportunities to handle tree-planting and other conservation projects along the river.
“I will support Truphena, and I plan to reach out to the Nairobi River Regeneration Commission to give her an opportunity to handle environmental aspects, like planting trees along the Nairobi River,” he shared.

Mosiria also called on President William Ruto to consider appointing Truphena to a position within the commission, enabling her to advise on environmental matters and create a park along the Nairobi River, leaving a lasting legacy tied to her name.
“I am also calling on the President of Kenya to give her a role in the Commission to advise and manage conservation efforts, and to provide her with space to create a park along the river so that it can be remembered with her name,” Mosiria shared.
Elusive feat
Truphena’s achievement has been widely celebrated in Kenya. She began her 72-hour tree-hugging challenge on December 8, 2025, in Nyeri County, remaining rooted to a single tree for three consecutive days.
The challenge included a three-hour blindfolded segment designed to highlight the experiences of visually impaired individuals, combining environmental awareness with advocacy for social issues.
Her effort was aimed at raising awareness about deforestation, climate change, and mental health struggles among young people, turning a personal endurance feat into a campaign with national relevance.
During the challenge, residents, youth leaders, and environmental activists regularly visited to provide encouragement and support.

By the end of the challenge on December 11, Truphena had captured nationwide attention, with fans and well-wishers across Kenya celebrating her dedication.
The Nyeri Youth Summit marked the culmination of her efforts, where she was honoured for her resilience and environmental advocacy.
Her feat also attracted a range of sponsors, who recognised her achievement with meaningful rewards.
These included a six-day trip to Dubai arranged by Adequate Safaris, a parcel of land in Kilifi with a registered title deed, a cash prize of Ksh1 million facilitated by Odibets, and several electronic gadgets, including a Samsung Galaxy Fold 7, a Samsung S25 Ultra, a TCL tablet, and two months of Safaricom talk time and data bundles to support her advocacy work and digital storytelling.
