Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has announced that she intends to channel her rapidly rising TikTok fame into a meaningful cause, revealing that her difficult personal journey has shaped her determination to support other girls and young people facing similar struggles.

Speaking at length during a TikTok livestream on the night of Thursday, December 11, 2025, Truphena reflected on the hardships she has endured throughout her life, noting that many viewers may not fully understand the weight of her experiences.

She explained that these challenges have fuelled her commitment to ensure that no girl has to navigate the same pain or uncertainty she faced while growing up.

“I will make sure that girls won’t have to go through what I went through in life. In my journey, I have been through so much, even though many people don’t know. I want to use my platform to help other people grow,” she said.

During the livestream, she also reacted emotionally after TikTok users sent her a large number of gifts and M-Pesa contributions.

Truphena said the support became so overwhelming that her M-Pesa briefly jammed, making it hard for her to transfer the money to M-Shwari.

She thanked her followers for their generosity and said the encouragement she received strengthened her resolve to use her platform responsibly and for the benefit of others.

“And I have seen the overwhelming gifts you have sent me. My number is even jammed on M-Pesa, but I appreciate all the TikTok gifts. Sometimes when I try to transfer the money to M-Shwari, it doesn’t go through, but when the network is okay, I see the money coming in now,” she said.

Elusive feat

The 22-year-old environmental activist officially broke her own 72-hour tree-hugging record on Thursday, December 11, 2025, amid loud cheers and overwhelming support from the public.

Throughout the challenge, Truphena remained rooted, literally hugging a single tree for three continuous days in an effort to raise awareness about the need to protect forests and wildlife.

She had begun her 72-hour marathon on December 8, 2025, in Nyeri County, drawing nationwide attention.

Her goal was to break her own Guinness World Record, which she set earlier this year after hugging a tree for 48 hours at Nairobi’s Michuki Memorial Park.

Her earlier feat earned her national recognition and praise from environmental groups.

This new challenge was meant to raise awareness about deforestation, climate change, and mental-health struggles among young people.

Truphena had also included a three-hour blindfolded segment to highlight the experiences of visually impaired people and to link conservation to social justice.
