Eric Omondi reveals Fred’s death hit him differently
By Valerian Khakayi, December 21, 2025Veteran comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi has opened up about the deep pain he continues to carry following the death of his brother Fred, revealing that the loss affected him in a way he had never experienced before.
Speaking during an interview with Chris the Bass in an episode aired on Saturday, December 11, 2025, Eric reflected on the many losses he has endured over the years, including the deaths of his parents and an elder brother.
While those losses were painful, he explained that Fred’s passing felt different and has continued to weigh heavily on him.
I lost my mum in 2002, I lost my dad in 2004, I lost my big brother around 2016. I lost my mother, we buried her, I lost my father, we buried him, I lost my brother, we buried him, but my brother Freddy haijawai nihit, Eric said.
“I have lost very many close people in my family, but Fred ilinihit different.”
The comedian attributed the deep impact to the close bond they shared, both in life and in their careers. Eric revealed that he and Fred grew up together, joined the entertainment industry side by side, and even moved to Nairobi together in pursuit of their dreams.
“I do not know ni kwa sababu tumegrow na Freddy na kwa industry na tulikuja Nairobi pamoja, sijui ni juu tulikuwa close, hiyo ilinipata mbaka wa leo, hizo siku nilikuwa naamka na sema, ‘What ni aje?’” he added.

Struggling to accept his death
This comes after he opened up on how he struggled to come to terms with the tragic death of Fred.
Speaking during a candid interview by Galston Antony that was aired on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Omondi disclosed that the loss affected him deeply and that he had never fully healed or come to terms with it because it happened so fast.
He went on to narrate that when he was first informed of his brother’s death, he doubted it was an accident. At the hospital, he questioned where it had happened and accused them of killing his brother, but they insisted it was an accident.
“It did affect me a lot. I do not think I have healed from it or have ever come to terms with it, it happened so fast,” Omondi revealed.

“When I was told my brother was dead, I did not believe it was an accident. I went to the hospital and asked, Where did it happen? I told them, you killed my brother, but they said it was an accident, they took like an hour to take me to the scene. I had to go to the scene and asked, Where is the bodaboda? Again, it took like another hour, and they took me to the police station. I saw the boda boda, then I had to look for the driver of the mini bus, that is when I started believing it was an accident.”
He added that he found it hard to believe it was an accident since the coincidence felt too much for him.
“Then I also asked how was my brother on a bodaboda? That was the first thing that came to my mind, my brother on a boda boda at 5:00 am, where was he going? My usual instincts were that you guys have killed my brother because at that time my activism was at the highest, and I had gone to the parliament like eight times just before my brother’s death,” he added.
“I could not believe it because the coincidence was too much for me.”
Acceptance
The self-proclaimed president of comedy explained that when he went looking for the bodaboda rider, he discovered that the rider was also being buried, and that is when he began to believe it might have been an accident.
“Until this day, I still feel like was there an eye witness? I looked for the driver of the boda boda and found the driver of the boda boda being buried; that is when I started believing maybe it was an accident,” he explained.
“Finally, we accepted that it was an accident, and we buried him.”
Fred lost his life in a road accident in Nairobi early Saturday morning, June 15, 2024.
