Eric Omondi explains why ailing barber Sam Kitiki’s haircuts could now cost up to Ksh30K
Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has explained the reason ailing celebrity barber Sam Kitiki may now charge clients up to Ksh30,000 for a single shave.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Omondi explained that the move is part of a wider drive being spearheaded through the Sisi Kwa Sisi Foundation to mobilise funds for Kitiki, who is currently battling stage three stomach cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.
“This initiative to help Sam Kitiki is something big, and we are doing it through the Sisi Kwa Sisi Foundation. That is why I have been rallying Kenyans to come together and help him raise funds for his cancer treatment,” he shared.
Omondi revealed that he had closely followed Sam’s story for some time, noting that social media users had persistently tagged him in posts where the barber was appealing for help and requesting his intervention.
“I had been following his story, and I noticed that people on social media were constantly tagging me in posts where Sam was asking for help and requesting my intervention,” he said.

The activist explained that matters reached a turning point after Sam wrote an emotional letter detailing his struggles, in which he disclosed that he was contemplating giving up after losing most of his clients despite his deep passion for barbering.
Eric recalled that the letter resonated widely and attracted hundreds of comments, leading him to step in and rally public support.
“I kept seeing many tags, and recently he wrote a letter in which he shared his struggles. On that post, more than 390 people commented while tagging me, urging me to rally support for him. The letter touched many people because he said he was giving up, noting that he no longer had clients despite his deep love for barbering,” he said.
He explained that he then came up with the idea of creating a physical platform where Sam could practise his craft while receiving meaningful financial support from well-wishers, rather than relying solely on donations.
The comedian revealed that the initiative will take place today, Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Uhuru Park, where Sam will be shaving clients as part of a broader community-driven fundraiser.
“I could not rest because people kept tagging me everywhere, and some even started calling me directly. That is when I decided to post his story one morning. I then got the idea of bringing him to a place where he could shave people and be paid well as a way of supporting him. That is why I asked people to go to Uhuru Park on Sunday, January 25, 2026, where he will be shaving,” he stated.

Eric then clarified that due to Sam’s health condition, it would not be possible for him to attend to many clients alone, prompting the organisers to invite other barbers and salonists to volunteer their services on the day.
He explained that while the general shaving services at the event will be handled by volunteer barbers, Sam Kitiki himself will be stationed at a designated VIP dais, where clients who specifically request his services will be required to pay Ksh30,000 per shave.
“However, because he cannot shave many people on his own, I asked other barbers and salonists to volunteer and come through, and many of them have agreed. As for Sam himself, he will be at the VIP dais, and anyone who specifically wants him to shave them will pay Ksh30,000,” Eric said.
