‘East Kwetu’: Buruklyn Boyz celebrate Eastlands in feel-good anthem

By , April 25, 2026

Drill duo Buruklyn Boyz are back with East Kwetu, a vibrant new single that marks a clear shift from their signature drill sound.

Released on Saturday, April 24, 2026, under Five8 Records, the track leans into a brighter, more melodic direction, and the result is instantly infectious.

For a duo known for hard-hitting drill, East Kwetu flips the script.

The beat carries a distinct Latino/reggaeton-type vibe, bouncy, sunny, and danceable, complete with Latino-style ad-libs that add extra flavour and replay value.

It’s a sound that feels light but intentional, built for movement and easy listening.

Produced by Wednesday and mixed and mastered by Clue Ashaivisha Track, the song keeps a clean, polished feel while allowing the rhythm to lead. It’s less aggressive, more inviting, and it works.

Pride In place

At its core, East Kwetu is about home.

Ajay sets the tone with a warm invitation: “Karibu uku kwetu, tunapenda huku kwetu,” drawing listeners straight into Eastlands. The lyrics move through everyday life, sunrise, hustle, and the push to make something out of the streets.

Mr Right follows with a grounded verse that brings in faith and loyalty. “Mungu mbele usisahau kuswali,” he says, before making it clear that no matter where life takes him, home remains constant.

Together, the duo delivers a message rooted in identity, never forgetting where you come from.

Visuals match energy

The official video, directed by TN Zethy Creative Team, leans into simplicity and authenticity.

Shot largely on a basketball court, it captures the everyday rhythm of Eastland’s friends, movement, colour, and community.

Drone shots by Shack and support from assistant director Fabreazy give it a polished but still grounded feel.

It’s clean, vibrant, and aligned with the song’s mood.

East Kwetu signals a shift for Buruklyn Boyz.

After gaining attention with Nairobi, which painted a broader picture of the city, this release zooms in, focusing on Buruburu and the Eastlands identity with more clarity and pride.

It’s not just a sound change. Its growth.

The duo steps out of drill, experiments with a global rhythm, and still holds onto their core Sheng, street stories, and a strong sense of place.
