Dorea Chege recalls enduring 18 hours in labour before emergency surgery to welcome Tipharah

Actress Dorea Chege has reflected on the intense and emotional experience of giving birth to her daughter, Tipharah Meleah Wanjiku Ndegwa.

Sharing the ordeal in a Facebook post on Friday, March 27, 2026, she recounted enduring 18 hours of labour, followed by emergency surgery, emphasising the lengths she went through to bring her daughter into the world.

“18 hours of labour. Emergency surgery. And I’d do it all again without hesitation. Because that’s how much I wanted you, my wanjiku❤️,” she wrote.

Despite the pain and challenges, she expressed that she would go through it all again without hesitation because of her love for her daughter.

Dorea described Tipharah as her miracle, her answered prayer, and her forever reason, highlighting the emotional significance of her first heartbeat and the anticipation she felt even before meeting her.

“From the very first heartbeat, you were worth every pain, every prayer, every fight. I love you so much, my miracle, my answered prayer, my forever reason❤️#mummydaughtergoals,” she added.

Bundle of joy

Dorea and her lover, DJ Dibul, born Dickson Ndegwa Nyathore, officially announced the birth of their first child, a baby girl, on March 24, 2025.

The couple shared the news through a series of emotional social media posts, initially referring to their daughter as “Baby Wendo”, a name they had previously teased during their lavish baby shower.

The path to motherhood was a deeply personal and transformative experience for the former Maria actress.

At the time, Dorea revealed that she discovered the pregnancy two months in, as she had been dealing with irregular periods and did not immediately realise she was expecting.

She publicly announced the pregnancy on her 32nd birthday, January 3, 2025, after leaving fans in suspense with a cryptic countdown on her YouTube channel, The Bulls Family.

The grand name reveal

In a characteristically grand fashion, the couple hired a chopper to unveil their daughter’s full name: Tipharah Meleah Wanjiku Ndegwa.

Dorea shared the deep meanings behind the names, explaining that Tipharah signifies beauty, glory, or adornment, while Meleah translates to something beautiful or pleasant.

Since welcoming her daughter, Dorea has been vocal about the realities of postpartum life, particularly the recovery following a Caesarean Section (CS) delivery.

Months later, she made headlines for her decision to hire a night nurse to help care for the newborn between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., arguing that asking for help is an act of wise self-care rather than a weakness.

She also urged other mothers to let go of the guilt associated with needing rest and encouraged men to step up by providing such support for their partners.

“Things have been made easier for new mums. I have the whole day to bond with the baby. The night nurse just takes care of the baby at night while I rest,” she said.

Reflecting on the experience, she noted that there is no medal or prize in suffering and expressed immense gratitude for the “precious princess” who has brought a new wave of joy to her life.

“There is no medal and prize in suffering. If I’ve done it, you can also do it,” she urged other mums.
