Dem Wa Facebook breaks silence on claims her Obinna co-hosting journey began in Kayole

Comedienne Dem Wa Facebook has addressed long-running speculation on whether her calling to co-host Obinna’s show came while she was living in Kayole Junction, clarifying that the opportunity did not originate there, as many people assume.
Speaking during an interview with the Time Lapse Podcast on Saturday, December 6, 2025, the entertainer said that she had already been appearing on Oga Obinna’s platform long before she relocated to Kayole.
“When I was living in Kayole, I was still working for many people, and Obinna was among them. I was doing a lot of different jobs, including going to his show,” she said.
As the interview progressed, however, she firmly shut down any further questions about Obinna, insisting the conversation move on to other topics.
She emphasised that any additional queries about him should be kept to oneself, making it clear she had no intention whatsoever of addressing the matter.
“And now, please don’t ask me about Obinna anymore. We can move to other questions and focus on other questions. That question you want to ask me about him, keep it to yourself. I don’t want to address those matters. Even if you say the question is harmless, leave it,” she said.
Showbiz fame
At the same time, Dem Wa Facebook spoke candidly about the moment she began to believe she could go big in comedy, pointing to her first appearance on the Churchill Show as the experience that changed her life.
She said stepping on that stage gave her confidence, visibility, and the validation she needed to push forward in the industry.
“As for going to Churchill for the first time and gaining the confidence to entertain people, I would say it was poverty. Coming from poverty is the biggest motivation,” she said.

The comedienne added that coming from a poor background played a major role in shaping her drive.
She explained that people who lack financial comfort often develop boldness because they have no luxury of shyness. She said that poverty became her strongest motivator, pushing her to seize every chance that came her way.
“When you don’t have money, you usually have a lot of confidence because you can’t afford to be shy. So when I went to Churchill, people liked me, and the videos went viral. After that, I even performed in Mombasa and the pay was good,” she said.
Dem Wa Facebook noted that after her Churchill appearance, clips of her performance went viral on social media, leading to widespread recognition. She added that this exposure opened doors for her outside Nairobi, including paid shows in Mombasa that helped her realise that the entertainment industry could be a sustainable career if one builds a strong brand.
“First of all, when I got into the showbiz industry, I realized it’s not like the football career I was in before. Once you build yourself as a brand and you have a good name, you get so many good gigs. You can become very successful. So when you get those big platforms, make sure you take the chance to shine and grow,” she added.
