Chiki Kuruka has called for protection and fair treatment of a teenage girl linked to a child kidnapping case that has raised concern across the country.

She spoke out about the matter on Instagram on Monday, May 25, 2026, while urging people to also consider the deeper issues affecting minors involved in serious crimes.

Kuruka explained that while the actions in such cases are serious, children involved may also be victims of other hidden challenges. She noted that factors such as neglect, trauma, threats, and grooming can play a role in influencing a child’s behaviour.

“Any 15-year-old involved in a crime as serious as this one is also a victim of something. Negligence, trauma, threats, grooming,” Chiki Kuruka said.

She clarified that her statement was not meant to excuse wrongdoing. According to her, the behaviour should still be addressed, but the age of the suspect must also be considered in how the case is handled.

“That’s not to say her behaviour is acceptable. But she is a child,” Chiki Kuruka added.

The emotional weight of the incident

Kuruka further explained that situations involving minors in serious crimes can be emotionally overwhelming. She said that coming forward or being part of such investigations can be frightening for a young person.

“Coming forward must be scary and overwhelming,” she said.

She also expressed hope that the child in question would be protected during the ongoing process. Kuruka called for accountability, especially for adults who may have influenced or failed both the suspect and the victim involved in the case.

“I PRAY she is protected, and I really hope the adults who have failed her and failed the kidnapped child are brought to justice,” Chiki Kuruka said.

She further warned that public conversations on social media can sometimes shift focus away from the real issues. According to her, online discussions may distract people from the main concerns that need attention.

“Social media has a crazy way of distracting consumers from the real issues. I hope this isn’t another instance of that,” she added.

Her remarks come at a time when concerns are growing over a series of child abduction cases reported in different parts of the country. The latest incident involved the rescue of a two-year-old child in Githurai, Nairobi.

Reports indicate that CCTV footage captured the moment the child was led away by a 15-year-old girl.
