Chebet Ronoh defends Murugi Munyi, says being broke in Nairobi is a choice

Content creator Chebet Ronoh has defended Murugi Munyi, saying that being broke in Nairobi is a choice.
She shared her views while speaking about opportunities in the city, noting that many people overlook how much is available around them. She said mindset and exposure play a big role in how people experience life during a podcast on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
The former radio host explained that many Kenyans do not fully appreciate what the country offers. She said, despite challenges like governance, there are still many opportunities. Chebet Ronoh added that people from other countries often speak positively about Kenya.

“I feel like, one, Kenyans don’t understand how blessed we are,” Chebet Ronoh said.
The content creator went on to say that she has interacted with people from different countries who admire Kenya. She explained that Nigerians and Malawians she has spoken to often highlight how good life can be locally. She added that these perspectives show a different side that many ignore.
“Nigerians, I have spoken to Nigerians, Malawians, they say how great Kenya is,” she explained.
Exposure and mindset in Nairobi life
Chebet Ronoh explained that the lifestyle in Nairobi depends on personal situations. She said having money allows people to enjoy a comfortable life in the city. She added that many young people often claim there is no money, yet evidence shows otherwise.
“If you have money in Nairobi, you can live well,” the content creator maintained.

She said that the belief that there is no money in Kenya is not entirely true. She explained that some people are already living well and building wealth. She added that exposure to better environments can change how people think.
“But I think even we as young people sometimes we are like ‘hakuna doh Kenya’ and I am like iko,” Chebet Ronoh remarked.
She also defended Murugi Munyi’s earlier remarks on poverty. She said Murugi’s statements reflect a reality that many may not want to accept. She added that effort and determination can change a person’s situation.
“They always cook Murugi Munyi, and I agree with some of her takes, but not all the way,” Chebet Ronoh stated.
Chebet Ronoh further explained that success is possible with hard work. She said she has seen people rise from humble beginnings to achieve financial success. She added that such examples prove that change is possible.
“She was saying how being poor in Nairobi is a choice. In this country, unajituma tu to the right audience. I have seen people from ocha become millionaires,” the former radio host insisted.
