Shakib says he is still married days after Zari announced end of their marriage

In a surprising twist, Ugandan businessman and boxer Shakib Cham Lutaaya has stated that he is still married, just days after his partner of five years, socialite Zari Hassan, announced their separation.
However, speaking during an interview on Thursday, June 18, Shakib offered a very different account when asked directly whether he was still married. He responded firmly in the affirmative.
“Yeah,” he said.
When further asked who he was married to, Shakib responded, “The same person I have is the same person I’m still having,” a statement that suggests that he was referring to Zari Hassan
When the interviewer pressed further on whether there had been any improvement or change in the situation, Shakib gave a sarcastic answer.
“That would be a surprise to me as well,” he said.
Emotionally okay
During the same interview, Shakib described himself as “emotionally okay,” insisting that he is dealing with the situation maturely despite the public speculation surrounding his personal life.
“I’m handling everything as a grown man,” he added.

Shakib’s remarks come days after Zari Hassan shared a joint statement on Instagram confirming the end of their relationship. The pair, who rose to prominence through the Netflix reality show Young, Famous & African, cited “irreconcilable differences” after five years together.
The statement noted that their decision to part ways was mutual and without hostility, adding that there was “no anger or resentment” between them.
Zari also expressed appreciation for the time they shared, the memories they created, and the support they gave each other throughout their relationship.

“5 years later, after much thought and reflection, we believe it is best for us to part ways due to irreconcilable differences. While this wasn’t an easy decision, we feel it is the right one for both of us,” the joint statement reads.
Despite the separation, she noted that they continue to value each other and remain friends with mutual respect and understanding.
“We value each other and remain friends with mutual respect and understanding. We sincerely wish each other happiness, success, and all the best for the future,” the joint statement reads.
