Pastor Kanyari’s emotional message after Utumishi Girls fire tragedy

Salvation Healing Ministry founder Pastor Kanyari has joined Kenyans in mourning following the tragic fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Nakuru County, which claimed the lives of about 16 students.

In a Facebook statement on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Kanyari, who is vying for the Kasarani MP seat, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, saying the loss of young lives had left a heavy emotional burden on both him and the residents of Kasarani, whom he represents politically.

“It is with profound sorrow that I received the news of the fire tragedy in Utumishi Girls Academy, Gilgil, which claimed the lives of approximately 16 of our students,” he wrote.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the school community, and all those affected by the incident, describing the tragedy as a painful moment that has shaken the entire nation.

Kanyari noted that the deaths of the students represent a heartbreaking loss not only to their families but also to the country, which continues to grapple with the aftermath of the devastating dormitory fire.

“On behalf of myself and the people of Kasarani, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the school community, and all those affected. The loss of these young lives is a tragedy that weighs heavily on all of us,” he added.

He further stated that he shares in the grief of the affected families and stands with them during this difficult period, urging unity and support as they navigate the painful loss.

The MP aspirant also pledged that, if given leadership responsibility in the future, he would push for urgent reforms aimed at strengthening safety standards in schools across the country.

“I share in your grief and stand with you in this moment of pain. As your leader, I will in future pledge to push for immediate measures that guarantee the safety of our children in schools. Such a tragedy must never be allowed to happen again in my Leadership,” he added.

He emphasised that such a tragedy must never be allowed to happen again, adding that stronger preventive measures and accountability systems are necessary to protect learners in boarding institutions.

Kanyari then prayed for the souls of the departed students, asking God to grant comfort, strength, and fortitude to their families as they come to terms with the loss.

“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace, and may God grant the families strength, comfort, and fortitude during this difficult time,” he shared.
