Pastor Ezekiel reveals why Wema Sepetu’s struggle to become a mother moved him to pray

New Life Church and Prayer Centre founder Pastor Ezekiel Odero has opened up on why he offered emotional prayers for Tanzanian actress Wema Sepetu despite never having met her or knowing her personally.
Speaking to a local Tanzanian YouTuber on Saturday, June 20, 2026, the preacher explained that his decision to pray for the actress was not based on a personal relationship but was inspired by her openness about her struggles to become a mother and the way she responded to her challenges.
Speaking about the widely discussed prayers, Pastor Ezekiel said he had initially not intended to address the matter, even instructing his management that he did not want to discuss it publicly.
“This issue about how I had prophesied and prayed for Wema to get a baby and that coming to pass, I never wanted to talk about it from the word go,” he said.
The pastor explained that even before appearing in the interview, he had informed his manager that he preferred not to speak about the matter.
“Even when I came here, I told my manager that I did not want to address that issue,” he added.
However, after being asked what moved him to pray for Wema, Pastor Ezekiel opened up about the moment he came across her story online.
He revealed that he had never met Wema Sepetu before and only learnt about her journey after coming across a video of her speaking about her struggles with motherhood.
“So I have never seen Wema Sepetu, and I never knew her personally. And I had found her clip on YouTube of her saying it could be God’s will that she was not getting a baby,” he explained.
According to the preacher, what touched him most was Wema’s honesty and acceptance despite the emotional pain she had experienced.
He said the actress openly shared her desire to become a mother but also revealed that she had reached a point where she believed she had accepted God’s plan for her life.
“What drew me to pray for her was how open she was. She openly said she had been wishing to be a mother but she said she had reached 35 years and she had been told by doctors that she could not sire,” Pastor Ezekiel said.
He noted that some people facing similar struggles could have questioned God or become bitter, but he admired how the actress chose to remain faithful.
“You know there are those who, when they were her, could have cursed God, wondering why He had denied them a baby. And they would have said many bad things,” he said.
“But Wema said that she had made peace and loved God because it was His will,” he added.
Pastor Ezekiel said Wema’s response to her situation convinced him that she had a good heart and was deserving of prayers.
“I was touched so much in the heart. Despite the challenge she was facing, she did not curse God. I saw she was a good person,” he said.
