Pascal Tokodi responds after Sagini Megane says he’s tired of seeing him on screen

Actor Pascal Tokodi has responded after film commentator Sagini Megane went viral for criticising the repeated casting of the same actors, saying he was tired of seeing Tokodi on screen.

In a video shared on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Sagini criticised what he described as the repeated casting of the same actors in Kenyan productions, saying viewers should not feel obligated to support local films simply because they are Kenyan.

He singled out several actors, including Sarah Hassan, Brenda Wairimu, Pascal Tokodi, Catherine Kamau and Blessing Lung’aho, claiming he would not watch films featuring them because he was “sick and tired” of seeing the same faces.

“If I see a movie with Sarah Hassan, Brenda Wairimu, Pascal Tokodi, Catherine Kamau, Blessing Lung’aho, I’m not watching it because I’m sick and tired of seeing them on my screen,” he said.

Sagini maintained that actors should earn audiences’ support through quality productions rather than expect automatic loyalty from local viewers.

Tokodi responds firmly

Tokodi did not take the remarks lightly.

In an Instagram response on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the award-winning actor questioned Sagini’s credentials to dismiss the work of filmmakers and actors, repeatedly asking, “What have you done?”

“I wake up in the morning, and I’m told I’ve been tagged. What’s wrong with you? You’re a loser. A Kenyan loser,” Tokodi said.

He went on to challenge Sagini over his criticism of other people’s projects, arguing that creating films requires significant effort.

“So what? Other people’s projects are s***. But it’s their project. Where are you?” he said.

Industry support urged

Tokodi later expanded on his response in a social media post, urging Kenyans to support local creatives even as the industry continues to grow.

“We’re still building this industry. It won’t always be perfect. Some projects will miss the mark. But every filmmaker, actor, writer, producer and crew member who’s creating something original is laying another brick for the next generation,” he wrote.

The actor added that while criticism has its place, creating films is far more difficult than commenting from the sidelines.

“It’s easy to criticise from the sidelines. It’s much harder to create,” he said.

Addressing Sagini directly, Tokodi urged him to support those working to improve the Kenyan film industry rather than build a platform by tearing others down.

“If you truly love Kenyan film, support the people who are trying, not those who build a name by tearing others down or copying other people’s work. Let’s build. Then improve. In that order,” he added.
