P-Square feud explained: How Mr P, Rudeboy and Jude Okoye went from family to a bitter public fallout

For years, Peter “Mr P” Okoye, Paul “Rudeboy” Okoye and their elder brother Jude Okoye were at the centre of one of Africa’s biggest music success stories.

Peter and Paul, popularly known as P-Square, built a successful career as twins before disagreements within the family gradually pulled them apart.

Their fallout has since moved beyond music, with disputes over money, management, family relationships and the group’s history playing out publicly.

The latest chapter began in late July 2026 after a social media disagreement over Nigerian languages triggered another exchange between the twins.

Mr P later launched a multi-part tell-all series, revisiting years of disagreements and making fresh claims involving his brothers.

How the feud began

P-Square’s first major split came in 2017 after disagreements within the group and family.

The brothers eventually reconciled in 2021, but the reunion did not resolve all their differences.

Mr P has now disputed the idea that the reunion was a genuine return to P-Square, saying his priority at the time was repairing the relationship between the brothers.

“It was a fake reunion… I never wanted P-Square. All I wanted was for the brothers to come back as family,” he said.

The reconciliation eventually collapsed, with Peter and Paul once again pursuing separate careers.

The breakdown reopened questions about the group’s management, finances and the role played by Jude.

Money claims resurface

Financial disagreements have become one of the central issues in the dispute.

Mr P has made claims concerning the handling of P-Square’s catalogue royalties, financial records and ownership of the group’s brand.

He has also accused Jude of financial misconduct, claims Jude has denied.

The dispute is linked to an ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission case in which Jude faces money-laundering charges. He has pleaded not guilty.

Because the matter is before the courts, the allegations against Jude remain contested and should not be treated as facts.

Jude has responded to Mr P’s claims through his own videos, offering point-by-point rebuttals and maintaining his position on the issues.

The brothers have therefore continued to give competing accounts of what happened behind P-Square’s business arrangements.

The twins clash

The disagreement between Mr P and Rudeboy has also become increasingly public.

The latest confrontation was triggered while Mr P was in Paris after he spoke about his children speaking French and possibly having a home there.

When asked whether they spoke Igbo, Mr P responded: “And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”

The comment attracted criticism from some Nigerians.

Rudeboy responded by defending Nigerian and Igbo culture, saying: “I’m a ‘nobody’, I repeat, a nobody, without the culture, native language and pride of a Nigerian. 100 per cent proudly Nigerian, 100 per cent proudly Igbo.”

Mr P later apologised for his wording.

“If my response to ‘Who Naija language help?’ upset some people, I apologise and take full responsibility for my words. That doesn’t mean I hate Nigerian languages or our culture,” he said.

He clarified that he had been referring to Nigerian languages generally rather than Igbo specifically.

But Mr P also accused Rudeboy of taking advantage of the backlash against him.

“I don’t know why you look for every opportunity to make derisive comments or jump on the bandwagon whenever I’m being attacked… At this point, I think it’s only fair I start giving the same energy I receive. No more Mr Nice Guy. It’s aura for aura, egusi for egusi, oha for oha,” he said.

The exchange marked the beginning of Mr P’s latest public campaign to explain his version of the P-Square story.

Mr P’s tell-all series

Mr P subsequently released a series of videos in which he revisited the group’s history and his relationship with his brothers.

Among the issues he discussed was the 2021 reunion, which he described as a family reconciliation rather than a genuine attempt to restore P-Square.

He also revisited his financial claims involving Jude and claimed Rudeboy had sided with their elder brother.

Those claims have been disputed by Jude, who has publicly responded to several of Mr P’s accusations.

The situation became more personal when Mr P discussed a family meeting involving their late mother, Josephine Okoye, Jude, Rudeboy and other relatives.

According to Mr P, the meeting involved Rudeboy’s wife, Lola.

He recalled: “Everybody was seated… I went to call Lola. When she entered the room, nobody stood up or said, ‘Lola, sit down.’… Lola and I just sat on the floor.”

Mr P further alleged that their mother told Lola: “Young woman, we the Okoye family have decided that you should leave our son alone.”

He went on to make further claims about the family’s reaction to Lola’s pregnancy and alleged that an anonymous email questioning the child’s paternity had circulated.

These claims have not been independently established and form part of Mr P’s account of the family’s internal dispute.

Rudeboy responds

Rudeboy has not accepted his brother’s version of events.

Following the episode involving their late mother, he posted: “Unfortunately, you’re not here to defend yourself. Continue resting, Mum.”

His management, Fire Department Inc., later issued a statement addressing the growing controversy.

“While we understand the public interest, we believe that personal and family matters are best handled with dignity, respect, and responsibility. We will not be drawn into an exchange of allegations or commentary that distracts from the work, the fans, and the music,” the statement said.

The response signalled Rudeboy’s position that the family dispute should not continue as a public exchange of accusations.

Jude has similarly rejected Mr P’s financial claims.

After Mr P made claims that included claims of threats against him, Jude responded publicly, writing: “Oh wow! Now these, bro? Fine, it’s ok. To the Almighty God I hand over everything. You will be in my prayers. Shalom.”
