Octopizzo explains meeting with George Ruto after online backlash

Rapper Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has responded after facing online criticism over his recent meeting with President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto.

The backlash erupted after George shared photos on social media on Sunday, July 26, 2026, showing the pair together in Kisumu before later visiting Octopizzo’s rural home in Ugunja, Siaya County.

George shared a series of photos from the visit on Instagram, captioning them, “Postcards from Ugunja courtesy of Ohanga Jr.”

The images quickly sparked debate online, with some Kenyans labelling the rapper a “sellout” because of his previous criticism of the Ruto administration, support for the Gen Z-led protests and association with the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Critics argued that hosting the president’s son undermined his credibility, especially with the 2027 elections approaching and Octopizzo eyeing the Kibra parliamentary seat

Octopizzo breaks his silence

Breaking his silence through a post on X on Monday, July 27, 2026, Octopizzo maintained that people should not interpret every personal interaction through a political lens.

According to the rapper, friendship, politics and music each serve different purposes and should not be conflated.

“You must learn to distinguish between politics, friendship, and music as a profession. Each serves a different purpose, and when we respect those boundaries, we become better individuals and build healthier relationships. Usiwai nitetea nani,” he wrote.

Responds to another critic

The rapper later addressed another social media user who questioned whether his friendship with George Ruto meant he had abandoned his political beliefs.

“Sasa juu niko Linda Mwananchi inafaa ubeshte iishe ama? 😂😂 Twitter unibamba venye kila msee ni expert ya life ya msee mwingine except theirs,” he wrote.

In the response, Octopizzo dismissed suggestions that personal friendships should be dictated by political affiliation, arguing that people often rush to judge others’ lives without understanding the full context.
