Mulamwah opens up on why celebrities rarely help fans financially

Kenyan comedian and content creator David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah, has raised conversation online after sharing his thoughts on why many celebrities avoid helping fans financially despite constant requests on social media.

The comedian responded to a fan who questioned why public figures often seem reluctant to support struggling followers.

In a straightforward response shared on his official Instagram account stories, the entertainer explained that the issue is more complicated than many people assume.

Celebrities also face personal struggles

According to Mulamwah, celebrities also go through personal struggles that fans rarely get to see. He noted that fame does not automatically mean someone is financially stable or emotionally okay.

“Sometimes celebs have their own struggles too, mental, financial, etc.,” he wrote while responding to a fan on Monday, May 25, 2026.

The comedian also pointed out that some fans approach celebrities in ways that make it difficult to build genuine connections. He explained that while there are people who truly need help, others exploit celebrities by creating false stories in hopes of receiving money.

“Some fans are con artists pretending to be in situations that they are not,” he stated.

Mulamwah further said that social media has created pressure on public figures, with many fans expecting financial assistance simply because someone is famous.

Online pressure and mixed reactions

He suggested that some celebrities end up withdrawing from helping completely after facing criticism, manipulation, or online harassment. “Some celebs have trauma of social harassment from people, so they view everyone as an enemy and just prefer their space,” he added.

His remarks quickly attracted mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans agreeing that celebrities are often unfairly burdened with expectations from strangers. Others argued that public figures who are in a position to help should occasionally give back to their supporters.

The discussion also opened up conversations around boundaries between celebrities and fans, especially in the age of social media, where direct access has become easier than before.

While some fans defended Mulamwah’s statements, others maintained that kindness should not depend on fame or status. Still, many agreed that celebrities are human too and should not be treated like emergency funds whenever problems arise online.

Mulamwah has in the past been open about the realities of fame, often using humor and honest conversations to address issues affecting entertainers and online personalities in Kenya.
