Kwa Mbae’s brother discharged from hospital after Kenyans raised millions for his cancer treatment

Lewis, the brother of the viral ‘Kwa Mbae’ boy whose heartbreaking cancer battle inspired Kenyans to donate millions of shillings towards his treatment, has finally been discharged from hospital after spending months receiving specialised medical care.
Speaking in a TikTok video shared on Saturday, July 11, 2026, content creator Obidan Dela, who has been spearheading fundraising efforts for the family, announced that Lewis had finally been cleared to return home after doctors confirmed he was stable enough to continue his recovery outside hospital.
According to Obidan, the journey had been long and emotionally draining, but he thanked God for seeing Lewis through the difficult season.
“So guys, we are finally going home. Lewis has been discharged, and I want guys to say that it has been a journey, but God has been faithful. Finally, our handsome boy is going home,” he said.
Obidan expressed gratitude to thousands of Kenyans who contributed financially and kept the young boy in their prayers throughout his treatment.
“I want to appreciate every Kenyan who prayed for Lewis. Whoever contributed to his care, we are thankful, and now we are going home. KU Referral Hospital has done an amazing job,” he added.
The content creator further disclosed that the family had completed the discharge process after settling the necessary hospital requirements.
“We have cleared with the finance, and we are free to go home,” he said.

In emotional videos shared online, Obidan was seen presenting Lewis with two flower bouquets moments before they left the hospital.
The touching gesture visibly moved the young boy, who carried the bouquets as they walked out of the hospital before boarding a vehicle that would take them back to their home in Maara, Tharaka Nithi County.
Although Lewis has been discharged, Obidan revealed that his recovery journey is far from over.
He explained that the family will continue caring for him at home, noting that he is still unable to speak despite showing significant improvement.
“Lewis still cannot speak, though, but he is well enough to go home,” he said.
Obidan also appealed to Kenyans to continue supporting the family, saying earlier donations had already been utilised in Lewis’ treatment and hospital care.
He added that attention will now shift towards fulfilling another dream of building the family a decent house.
“We have a project to build them a house, and after this, we will initiate it, so we are still seeking your support,” he appealed.
At the same time, Obidan disclosed that the family is still waiting for the fulfilment of a pledge made by President William Ruto, who had promised to intervene in helping settle Lewis’ medical bill.
“We are still waiting for the promise of the President who had vowed to intervene in paying Lewis’s bill,” he said.
Lewis’s discharge comes nearly two months after Obidan announced that the young boy had successfully responded to treatment following months of battling cancer.
At the time, he revealed that Lewis had recovered well enough to be discharged and thanked Kenyans for standing with the family through prayers, financial contributions and emotional support.
