Obidan Dela reveals why ‘Kwa Mbae’ boy will not join boarding school despite Ksh3.7M donation
Content creator Obidan Dela has revealed that viral child sensation ‘Kwa Mbae’ boy will not be joining a boarding school yet, despite receiving sponsorship offers and massive financial support from Kenyans following his rise to fame.
Speaking in a TikTok video on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Obidan revealed that after extensive discussions and consultations, the family agreed that both Mbae and his sister would continue studying in the schools they attended before gaining online fame.
“So guys, as you can see today, I am here with Mbae again, his sister Joy, and their mum as well. And about the debate concerning school and Mbae going to a boarding school that had offered to sponsor him after going viral, we have decided that both Mbae and his sister will not move to any of those schools,” Obidan said.
He explained that one of the main reasons behind the decision involved Joy’s academic calendar, noting that she is currently sitting her Grade 6 examinations in preparation for transitioning to Grade 7, making a transfer at this stage impractical.
“They will continue schooling in the schools they were in before fame. For example, the sister Joy is currently in the middle of her exams because she is doing her Grade 6 papers so she can proceed to Grade 7, so transferring her right now would not work,” he stated.
Regarding Mbae, Obidan disclosed that they had already visited the boarding school that had offered to sponsor his education, but later concluded that the child was still too young for such an environment.
He noted that Mbae is only five years old, while the youngest boys currently enrolled at the institution are around ten years old, raising concerns about whether he would comfortably adapt to boarding school life.
“We also went to the school that had offered to sponsor Mbae, but we realised that he is very small for boarding school. He is only five years old, and the youngest boy in that school is at least ten years old,” Obidan said.

Obidan further explained that the child would instead remain in the local primary school he has been attending, where he is already familiar with the environment and receives support from teachers who understand and care for him.
He added that keeping Mbae near his family, especially his mother, was also an important consideration in the final decision.
“So Mbae will also stay in the local primary school he was schooling in for some more time so that he can remain close to his family, particularly his mum,” he shared.
The content creator also stated that teachers had advised against rushing the child into boarding school at such a young age, recommending that he first continue growing in a more familiar setting before making such a transition later on.
According to Obidan, the family remains grateful for the overwhelming support shown by Kenyans, including the millions raised to support the young boy’s welfare and education, but insisted that the child’s emotional well-being and comfort remain the priority.
“That is the update. Even the teachers have advised us the same, and where he is currently, the teachers love him, and he will be okay. When he grows older, he will then go to a boarding school,” he added.
