Good husbands deserve second wives – Laura Mbatha shares views on marriage
Kenyan digital creator Laura Mbatha has sparked a major conversation online after sharing her thoughts on marriage and polygamy. Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, the content creator openly explained why she believes great men should not restrict themselves to just one wife.
In a clip from the podcast on July 8, 2026, Laura did not hold back her thoughts on the matter. She noted that excellent husbands have a bigger role to play in society, especially when it comes to looking after women.
“For real, like, mimi sasa kama mimi kusema like, if you’re truly a good husband, you deserve a second wife. Because hata mimi kama dame, I want women to be protected,” she said.
Protecting women
Laura explained that her stance comes from a genuine desire to see more women safe and well provided for. To her, a responsible and loving man is a scarce resource that should be shared with others who need stability.
Her co-hosts in the studio burst into laughter after her remarks, but she quickly doubled down on her point, explaining that she looks at polygamy as a form of security for women rather than a threat to relationships.

“If I believe you are a good man, like inanikula. Wasichana wote waprotectiwe na this good man. This, my man, great man. Atawaokota wanne,” she said, before explaining that she looks at polygamy as a form of security for women rather than a threat to relationships.
She mentioned that the idea of good men remaining monogamous while many women struggle out here genuinely bothers her.
Sharing a great partner
The creator went on to say that she would happily allow her own husband to marry multiple wives if he proved to be an outstanding partner. She feels that keeping a great man to oneself hurts other women who are looking for reliable partners.

She added that the issue is something close to her heart, noting that it genuinely disturbs her to see good men unavailable to others.
Her remarks have since triggered mixed reactions across Kenyan social media spaces. While some netizens agree with her take on protection, others feel that modern marriages should strictly remain monogamous. The discussion highlights how young Kenyans continue to view traditional marriage setups through a modern lens.
