George Ruto addresses marriage question after viral social media banter with Teacher Cillah

President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has addressed questions about marriage following his recent social media banter with teacher and content creator Cillah.
Speaking during an interview at the Miss International Kenya 2026 event on Saturday, August 22, George was asked whether Cillah had convinced him to consider marriage following their playful exchanges online.
He was also asked whether the comments attributed to him on Cillah’s posts were written by him or his social media manager.
George dismissed speculation that the online exchanges pointed to a possible relationship, explaining that marriage was a serious decision that could not be made through social media. “You know marriage is a lifelong agreement with someone, so you just can’t meet someone on social media and agree on social media. So, no, I think it’s just social media hype,” he said.
George explains social media exchanges
George said the attention surrounding his interactions with Cillah had also shifted focus to the work they were doing. He revealed that he had learnt more about Cillah’s work, including her involvement in supporting students with special needs.
“I came to learn that she supports very many special needs students, teaches in Westlands Primary School, which we plan on visiting to support them with football equipment, support them with learning equipment, and so many things that you’ll see in the coming days,” he said.
George also explained that he personally handles many of the comments and interactions on his social media platforms. He said being close in age to his online audience helps him understand how to interact with them, adding that the banter has become a way of engaging followers.
“The comments on social media, I do a lot of it myself because I think I really understand how to relate with people my age,” he said. However, he acknowledged that his social media manager also handles some of the interactions.
How the banter started
The exchange between George and Cillah gained attention after the teacher repeatedly left playful comments on his Instagram posts, complimenting his appearance and calling him handsome.
George eventually responded to one of her comments by asking her to provide her Teachers Service Commission number. “Ebu TSC number niconfirm kitu,” George wrote.
The response appeared to excite Cillah, who joked that his interest in her TSC number could mean he wanted to know more about her. She later took the banter further by imagining a future with George, including him arriving in a G-Wagon and the two starting a school together.
Cillah also joked about their fictional wedding, saying the guests would be so excited that the tents might not even need to be placed on the ground.
Cillah continues the playful exchanges
Cillah later revealed that she had already picked a song for the imagined wedding and joked about changing her name to “Mrs George K Ruto”, before shortening it to “Mrs GK”. The exchange resurfaced when George asked his followers who Cillah was, joking that he had been in Kilgoris where there was no network.
Cillah responded by welcoming him back to Nairobi and joking about his apparent lack of knowledge about her. “Anasema ndio kurudi jiji, welcome back. We missed you. Kilgoris hakukuwa na network,” she said.
She then playfully suggested that George already knew who she was and that people did not understand the position she believed she held in his life.
Despite the online attention, George has now described the exchanges as social media banter rather than an indication of plans to get married.
