Former Machachari star Almasi appears to embrace Hinduism in temple videos
Former Machachari actor Ian Munene, popularly known as Almasi, has once again sparked conversation online after sharing videos that suggest he continues to embrace Hinduism.
The former child actor, who has previously spoken about his spiritual journey, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, posted two videos on TikTok showing himself participating in activities at a Hindu temple.
In one of the videos, Almasi is seen inside a temple worshipping as a Hindu devotional song plays in the background. The clip appears to be a response to a social media user who commented that he needed prayers, writing, “He doesn’t need prayers; our son is actually Hindu.”
In another video, the former actor is seen happily dancing inside the temple to a Hindu devotional song.
He captioned the clip simply, “Happy”, seemingly expressing contentment with his current spiritual path.

Almasi also recently shared a passage from the Bhagavad Gita, further reflecting his spiritual beliefs.
“The ultimate goal of progress is Kṛṣṇa. People do not know this; therefore, the association of devotees and a bona fide spiritual master are important. One should know that the goal is Kṛṣṇa, and when the goal is assigned, then the path is slowly but progressively traversed, and the ultimate goal is achieved,” Almasi shared.
The quote is from the Bhagavad Gita (10.10), purport by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
The videos have reignited discussions among fans, with some expressing support for his spiritual journey while others questioned whether he had fully converted to Hinduism.
Journey to Hinduism
Almasi has previously explained how he found himself drawn to Hinduism during one of the darkest periods of his life.
Speaking during an interview with Shivani Pau, he revealed that his journey began after learning that his mother had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer that had spread to her lungs.
The devastating news left him battling depression and questioning why bad things happen to good people. He recalled turning to alcohol and other distractions in an attempt to numb the emotional pain while also searching for answers about faith and the meaning of suffering.
According to Almasi, his search for answers led him to ask God difficult questions before a friend introduced him to Hinduism and invited him to a temple in Nairobi.

“Stephanie invited me to the temple. I went and I started learning about it. This was in Nairobi because we have a temple there. They were answering all my questions deeply, you know, and like nothing was washy about faith but like scientifically about how God is manoeuvring this world and how he’s within this world and he’s without it,” Almasi narrated.
“It was a lot of technical science. I knew there was knowledge beyond our understanding and was always inquisitive above the universe.””
Raised in a Catholic Christian family, Almasi acknowledged that his decision to embrace Hindu teachings and later pursue life as a monk came as a surprise to his mother. Despite the initial reactions, he said the spiritual path gave him purpose and helped him better understand life.
“I remember my mum’s face when I was coming from the temple and she had told me not to go to the temple again. I came in with some books, and I had them hidden under my sweater, thinking that she’s not going to see me anyway; I’m just going to run up to my room,” he said.

“And then I got to the door, and I opened the door, and she saw me, and she was like, ‘Where are you from?’ and I said, ‘I was just with a friend.’ ‘And the books started dropping one by one from my shirt, and she looked at me and was like, ‘Oh my God, really? These guys have really brainwashed you; they’re changing my son.'”
After relocating to the United Kingdom, Almasi continued deepening his spiritual journey at Bhaktivedanta Manor, a Hindu temple where he studied Hindu philosophy. He later revealed that he had been teaching sessions on the Bhagavad Gita, saying the ancient scripture transformed his outlook on compassion, self-love and service to others.
His latest temple videos suggest he continues to find peace and fulfilment in Hinduism, with many fans applauding him for openly embracing the spiritual path that has shaped his life in recent years.
