Former Machachari actor Malik Lemmy pays tribute to grandfather who predicted his TV career

Former Machachari actor Malik Lemmy has paid an emotional tribute to his late grandfather, sharing a heartfelt memory of how he predicted his television career years before it became a reality.
The actor, who is widely known for playing Govi in the popular Kenyan children’s television series, reflected on his grandfather’s encouragement in a post shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as he marked nine years since his passing.
A prediction that came true
Looking back on their time together, Malik said he did not spend many years with his grandfather, but the memories they created remain some of the most meaningful in his life.
He recalled one particular moment in 2005 when his grandfather pointed at a television set and confidently told him that he would one day appear on screen.
“I didn’t spend so many years with Grandpa, but the time we had was the best. I remember you pointing at the TV in 2005 and telling me that one day I’ll be inside that box, and that surely happened,” Malik Lemmy wrote.

The actor went on to describe his grandfather as a strong and inspiring figure whose influence continues to shape his life years after his passing.
Remembering a strong role model
As he honoured his grandfather’s memory, Malik expressed hope that he would be proud of everything the family has achieved.
“You are a force, and your strength was unmatched. I hope you are proud of the Mbelles. Nine years on, keep resting, Babu,” Malik added.
The touching tribute resonated with many of his followers, who joined him in remembering his grandfather and praised him for acknowledging the role family played in his journey.
The role that introduced him to Kenyan audiences
Malik became a household name through Machachari, one of Kenya’s most successful children’s television programmes.

In the series, he played the character Govi, one of the show’s main cast members. His performance earned him a loyal fan base, with many viewers growing up watching his adventures alongside the other young actors.
The programme, which aired for several years, became one of the country’s most recognised family shows and helped launch the careers of several child actors, including Malik.
Looking back with gratitude
Although years have passed since his time on Machachari, Malik’s latest post showed that he still carries with him the lessons and encouragement he received from his grandfather.
His tribute served as a reminder that words of encouragement can have a lasting impact, especially when they come from loved ones who believe in someone’s potential before anyone else does.
For Malik, what began as a simple conversation in front of a television eventually became a reality. As he reflected on that journey, he chose to honour the man who first saw his future long before the rest of the country did.
